According to Reuters, CD Projekt’s current co-CEO Adam Badowski said that it plans to form a development team of 400 people and start production on the first game of the new Witcher trilogy in mid-2024.
Badowski said that the first game in the new Witcher trilogy is internally codenamed "Polaris" and will continue the story of the Witcher universe.
"This is the first project to be developed with Unreal Engine 5, and it will take some extra work and effort to get ready," Badowski said.
He said that the early development of "Polaris" is mainly to lay a solid foundation and pave the way for the development of the subsequent two games of the new trilogy. Even if the entire development progresses smoothly, "Polaris" is not expected to be released until 2026 or 2027.
The new Witcher series, codenamed Polaris, is gradually becoming the company's main project. As of the end of July, there were nearly 260 developers working on this new Witcher series. This is the company’s largest project after Cyberpunk 2077: Shadows of the Past.
CD Projekt Red's latest financial report shows that as of October 31, 2023, nearly 330 developers (about 50% of its development staff) are working on the highly anticipated sequel.
