Turn nearby people on/off
Enter WeChat and tap "Me" -> Settings -> General -> Functions -> to turn on or off the "Nearby People" function.
Location targeting
The location of nearby people is located through the GPS of your mobile phone. The function of viewing nearby people will obtain your location information and will be retained for a period of time. There is currently no distance limit and the matches are random.
Turn on positioning method: "Settings" on your phone -> Turn on positioning.
Clear my location
Tap "Discover" -> "Nearby People" -> select the "..." function key in the upper right corner on WeChat and click "Clear Location Information and Exit" to manually clear location information at any time.
Q: How can I prevent people nearby from searching for me?
When you have used "Nearby People", the server will leave your geographical location information for a period of time; if you don't want people around you to search for you anymore, you can clear your geographical location.
You can follow the steps of "Clear My Location Information". After clearing your geographical location information, people around you will not be able to see you.
Q: Why can’t I search for people nearby, can’t greet others, or can’t people nearby search for me?
When using nearby people, you may not be able to search for nearby people, or you may not be able to search for me from nearby people, or you may not receive greetings from others. Please try the following steps.
1. Check the network
Check whether the network is available, or try another network (such as wifi).
Open the "Settings" of your phone and keep the "Wi-Fi" switch on;
Open your phone's "Settings" -> "General" -> "Cellular Network" switch and keep it on.
2. Change WeChat nickname
Try changing your WeChat nickname, log in again after 1 hour and try again;
If the nickname is not set, the nearby people function cannot be used.
3. Reposition the phone
Go to phone settings->Privacy->Location Services->Select the program that needs to be located.
4. Clear location information
Enter "Nearby People" on WeChat, select the "..." function key in the upper right corner, click "Clear location information and exit" and then use it again.
