The translation results are obtained in a manner similar to imitating web page translation. Part of the translation-related code comes from the open source project EdgeTranslate. If the above-mentioned translation engine provider believes that the current method of obtaining translation interfaces infringes upon its company's interests, please contact the plug-in development team at [email protected] and we will delete this function.
Looking for partners : In order to allow scientific researchers from more countries to use this plug-in, the EasyPubMed instructions for use need to be translated into English . However, due to my limited time, energy and level, I am unable to complete the English translation of EasyPubMed instructions on my own. If you are interested in helping translate the EasyPubMed instructions for use, please contact [email protected]. Thank you for your participation.

Display the magazine JCR partition or the Chinese Academy of Sciences partition (can be set in the pop-up interface)
- JCR Division: Using the latest 2024 Journal Citation Reports data, the division shown is the magazine's best ranking in the subject categories used by SCIE. For example, if the magazine ranks Q1 in subject A and Q3 in subject B, then the magazine will be marked as Q1 based on its best ranking. Magazines in different divisions are marked in different colors, Q1 is marked in red, Q1 is marked in yellow, Q3 is marked in green, and Q4 is marked in gray. NA means that the journal is not included.
- CAS partition: Using the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) literature information partition table released in December 2023, the partition shown is the best ranking of the journal in the subject category used. We use B1, B2, B3, and B4 to indicate that the magazine is in District 1, District 2, District 3, and District 4. Different division magazines are marked in different colors, B1 is marked in red, B1 is marked in yellow, B3 is marked in green, and B4 is marked in gray. NA means that the journal is not included.

EasyPubMed plug-ins for magazines supported by CSL are supported. The three customized formats are literature citation formats that researchers often use when taking notes on papers:
- Quick Reference (Last Author): The in-text citation format is the corresponding author, year of publication, magazine abbreviation [impact factor, PMID] , and the reference format at the end of the article is the magazine abbreviation. Publication year, month and date; volume (issue): page number
- Quick Reference (First, Last Author): The in-text citation format is the corresponding author, year of publication, journal abbreviation [impact factor, PMID] , the format of the reference at the end of the article is the same as above
- Powerpoint Reference: This is the literature citation format commonly used when making slides, in the form of the first author (if there are multiple authors, follow et al.), the abbreviation of the magazine name and the year of publication. If you have other literature citation format requirements during use, you can use Please contact me for error reports and suggestions, and I will add a literature citation format that requires more feedback in subsequent versions.

FAQ
1. Why does the translation keep showing 'Error'?
This plug-in supports six major translation engines (DeepL, Keyan Translation, Xiaoniu Translation, Caiyun Xiaoyi, Baidu Reaction, and Google Translate). Some translation engines may not be available due to network reasons. If this happens, please click the blue EP button in front of Error (or select the text and press the D key). A translation dialog box will pop up. In the Translate tab, try a translation engine that satisfies you, and drag in the Settings column. Adjust the translation engine order (the first one is the default engine) to achieve the best translation experience.
2. Is there a Safari version or a Firefox version?
The Safari version is under development. There have been a lot of things going on recently. The Safari version has been on hold for half of the development. I will complete it as soon as possible. I hope users will understand. There are some differences between the Firefox browser kernel and Chrome and Edge. Development requires more changes to the code, and there are no plans in the short term. If you want to develop similar plug-ins on the above platforms, you can contact me and I will provide the necessary help.
3. Why do some journals’ impact factors and sections display errors?
The core data of the EasyPubMed plug-in uses the unique ISSN number of the magazine to merge the Pubmed database magazine information, JCR reports, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) literature information partition table. The error is caused due to errors in the merging process. If you find it, you can contact [email protected].
4. Why are all the partition and IF information in the EasyPubMed toolbar displayed as 'NA'?
If your browser also installs other similar tools such as Scholarscope, it may conflict with EasyPubMed, resulting in information not being displayed properly. It is recommended that the following two methods can be used to solve the problem: 1. Temporarily close other plug-ins such as Scholarscope, and then open them again. 2. Uninstall other plug-ins. If the problem still cannot be solved, you can contact me.
5. Why do some PDFs open on the web page and some download PDFs after clicking Full-text PDF?
EasyPubMed can help obtain full text from Unpaywall, Sci-hub and many more. Since the settings of each platform are different, some PDFs are opened in web pages, and some PDFs are automatically downloaded.
6. After successfully installing EasyPubMed and going to 360 Browser, why is the toolbar not displayed?
Many browsers such as 360 Browser have two modes: compatibility mode and extreme speed mode. In compatibility mode, the EasyPubMed plug-in will be blocked. Therefore, if you want to use the plug-in successfully, make sure your browser is running in speed mode.
7. Why can’t the toolbar citation count, summary, and citations be displayed? Impact factor cannot be displayed in Google Scholar?
This is most likely related to the network status, please try to use a VPN or other reasonable means to connect to the network.
8. Why the sci-hub link cannot be loaded?
This is likely to be related to the sci-hub address configuration. Click the "EP" icon to set the URL used by sci-hub. For domestic use, it is recommended to use https://www.sci-hub.st/, https://www.sci- hub.se/, https://www.sci-hub.ru/, and other websites may be blocked.
Data source
The magazine's unique ISSN number is used to merge the Pubmed database magazine information, the 2024 JCR report (SSCI, SCIE), and the enhanced version of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) literature information partition table released in December 2023. We use the Pubmed magazine abbreviation to obtain the impact factor, JCR partition and CAS partition of each journal. Results have been manually verified. Since errors may occur during the merge process, if you find errors in your data, you can report the errors by sending an email to [email protected] or by raising a new proposal at https://github.com/naivenaive/EasyPubMed/issues Report it to us.

privacy
The extension does not collect any information that identifies you. This extension uses information about articles from the PubMed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) website you visit. This extension will store plug-in settings and document data added to the document management assistant into local storage. This information is only saved on your local computer. The following content may involve your personal information:
- Experience improvement plan: In order to improve the user experience of the plug-in and further develop it, such as making it more convenient to obtain the full text, the plug-in may collect relevant information about some websites you visit. Information will be delivered in an anonymous, encrypted form and no information that can identify you will be uploaded. If you do not wish to participate in the experience improvement program, you can exit by closing the 'Pop-up page-Help improve experience' .
- Information about articles obtained from the PubMed website you visited: This extension obtains the doi number of each article by analyzing the article information displayed on the website and passes the number to the backend. In the background, the extension anonymously accesses Unpaywall via the doi number and the Sci-Hub URL of your choice to obtain the full text PDF of the article. This information is passed to the frontend to activate or deactivate the "Full-text" button displayed on the page. No private information about you is passed on during this process.
- Related text you need to translate: This extension sends the text you need to translate to the background. In the background, the extension anonymously sends the text that needs to be translated to the corresponding translation website to obtain the translation results. No private information about you is passed on during this process.
Extension requires permission description:
- Storage and unlimited storage permissions: The extension needs to store the user's document information and user settings in local storage. Since the document information usually contains many items and has a large capacity, the plug-in requires unlimited storage permissions.
- Download permissions: The extended document management assistant helps users download documents and store them in the corresponding location in a standardized manner for easy search. Additionally, the extension renames documents on each download to standardize document naming. These processes require download permissions.
- Clipboard reading permission: PDF translation function is implemented through the clipboard. When the user selects text in the PDF and presses Ctrl+C, the text is saved to the clipboard. The extended backend obtains the selected text in the PDF by reading the clipboard and further processes the translation.
- Clipboard writing permission: The extension requires this permission to copy reference information to the clipboard so that the user can copy it elsewhere.

development story
I am a medical student and often use Pubmed to search for literature. A few years ago I discovered an extension called Pubmedy. This plug-in helps me save a lot of time reading the full text. Although this plug-in is very useful, it stopped updating in 2018. In May 2020, Pubmed stopped supporting the old version and replaced it with the new version. Since then, the Pubmedy plug-in can no longer be used. In the process of using the new version of Pubmed, I feel very uncomfortable without the help of this plug-in. Therefore, I decided to make a new plugin designed for the new version of Pubmed.
As a medical student, my knowledge of programming is limited to using R and Python for data processing. I have no idea how to write such a plug-in. After I made up my mind, I started to teach myself JavaScript, CSS and HTML front-end development knowledge. Using the original Pubmedy plug-in as a teacher and combining self-study content, I successfully produced and released the first version of the EasyPubMed plug-in in July 2020 after overcoming many difficulties. Since then, I have continued to learn about plug-in production, and released EasyPubMed v0.1.1 in November 2020. This version uses the Vue framework to reshape the core of the plug-in and adds translation and document filtering functions that are highly demanded by everyone.
Time flies, the sun shines into life again, and God protects this little creature. Many bugs were fixed in subsequent version iterations, and document citation functions, document management functions, and translation functions were added. In the past year, I have received suggestions from many scholars. Based on your feedback, I have further optimized the translation function and added functions such as automatic filtering of PubMed documents and export of Endnote documents. I hope everyone will be satisfied with these new features.
The EasyPubMed plug-in currently has 50,000+ downloads in the Edge store and 30,000+ downloads in the Chrome store and has been selected as a featured plug-in. Thanks to the majority of medical researchers for their support of this plug-in. Due to the limited level, some bugs will inevitably appear during the production process. I hope you can report your experience and the errors you find to [email protected]. I will be very grateful.
