This document fully describes Extensible Markup Language (XML), which is a subset of Standard Generic Markup Language (SGML). Its purpose is to make it possible to provide, receive and process common SGML on the Web in the same way as existing Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The design of XML takes into account not only the convenience of implementation, but also the interoperability with SGML and HTML.
