When you arrive at a planet for free exploration, turn on the scanner to build an outpost.
Press [Xbox: LB/PC: F] to move around until the outpost prompt at the bottom of the interface changes from gray to white, then press [Xbox: X/PC: R] to place the outpost.
Only available in specific areas with resource veins nearby, not everywhere, and outposts cannot be built too close to other points of interest, requiring a distance of about a few hundred meters. Building outposts unlocks corresponding achievements.
Note that the total number of outposts on any planet cannot exceed 8.
After placing the outpost beacon, the first thing to do is to build an extractor on the resource vein. Each planet has different available resources. Containers can be emptied periodically. Containers can also be connected to other buildings to create automated production chains.
