The Explorer of Windows 7 is very different from that of XP. One of them is that the navigation pane is displayed by default on the left side. It is displayed in a tree structure and allows you to quickly locate a deeper folder. However, one not so considerate thing is that it does not clearly identify the current folder. Fortunately, we can manually add a conspicuous identification to it.
To prepare, you need to first collect some transparent background icon files in .ico format and store them in a relatively fixed place.
Let's get started. First, enter regedit in the Start menu search box to start the Registry Editor;
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionexplorerShell Icons;
Note: If you expand the explorer and do not find the Shell Icons item, please right-click on the explorer, "New" a "item", and rename it to "Shell Icons". Pay attention to the capitalization and the spaces in between.
Then enter the right pane, right-click to create a new "String Value" and name it "4" (if this "4" does not exist), and finally right-click on "4" and select "Modify (M)", "Data Value" "Fill in the full path of the icon you want to change it to, and exit the Registry Editor after confirmation.
Save the work you are doing, log out of the system and log in again, then open the resource manager and see if the icon of the selected folder has changed? This is not the only place that has changed. Take a look at the Programs folder in the Start menu, or start the Registry Editor again.
