Problem: Many friends have encountered this problem. When using a browser to download compressed files such as ZIP or RAR, the "download dialog box" does not appear, but the compressed file is opened directly. This is quite inconvenient for saving files. Is there any way to solve it?
Analysis: In fact, all downloaded files will be saved in the "Temporary Internet Files" folder when downloading. After the download is completed, they will be saved to the specified location. If you accidentally uncheck the "Always ask before opening this type of file" item in the download dialog box, it will be opened directly using the program associated with this file type after the download is completed. Therefore, the download dialog box does not appear.
However, the processing methods under XP, Vista and Windows 7 are different. Let’s look at them separately:
1. If you are running Windows XP system:
Open "Folder Options" in the "Control Panel", click in the opened window to switch to the "File Types" tab, and click to select files such as ZIP or RAR in the list, as shown below:
Then click "Advanced" and select the radio button of "Confirm to open after downloading" in the pop-up window.
OK, that’s it!
2. If you are running Windows 7 or Vista system:
The solution explained above only applies to XP. In view of the fact that more and more users are using Vista/Windows7, let’s explain the solution under Vista/Windows7.
Method: Compared with the XP method, this method is actually not difficult. "Start" - "Run" - "regeit32" to open the registry editor, then locate "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellAttachmentExecute{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" and delete the ZIP/RAR key value under it.
