Google has previously offered Gears for offline applications, and the upcoming HTML5 standard itself has built-in offline solutions. Although Gears is still a standard component of Chrome, Gears is not available on the Mac platform.
Google concluded that we are very excited about Gears technology, including offline support and geolocation API, which have been integrated into HTML5 as an open standard and can be supported by any browser. So it's only natural that developers would use these features in their websites next.
Of course, some people will definitely feel sad about the departure of Gears, but Google prefers open standards rather than influencing the market through its own status. Google needs Apple, Microsoft and Sony to learn from this.
However, HTML5 is still waving to us from afar, and it is not fully supported by all mainstream browsers. However, the good news is that Microsoft is currently considering allowing IE9 to support HTML5.
