Counting on my fingers, it has been more than 6 years since I first started building a website. There were so many things happening during this period, including studying, doing station work, working, and doing station work again. I don’t want to go into too much detail here. I just want to use my experience as a webmaster as a clue to make a simple review of the past few years. Whether it is a summary of life or a reflection on the Chinese Internet, I would like to say a few words.
It should be said that the period before 2004 was a happy one for people on the Internet in China. Whether as a Pudong netizen or as a webmaster, it is a free and open world. When building a website, no one requires you to register. As a netizen, no one will break into your house and catch you just because you are watching porn online in the middle of the night. Of course, in the first few years, I was just immersed in the enjoyment of being an Internet user, enjoying the huge physical and mental feelings brought by the Internet. Chat rooms, QQ, CS, online movies, and later BT, video chat, etc. At that time, there was nothing I couldn’t find and nothing I didn’t dare to publish. There is nothing you can't think of, but nothing you can't find.
At first, I had no idea about advertising and making money on the Internet, and I didn’t think about that aspect. The first realization that you can make money online started with the foreign advertising banners at that time. At that time, a popular advertising banner was similar to the current CPM display advertising, but it was billed according to the display time. The real way to make money is not through billing, but also through pulling in offline people. Now that I think about it, that thing is actually just a pyramid scheme. At that time, you could see this kind of offline promotional advertisements flying everywhere on the Internet. Of course, this is how I started to enter the industry. I remember that after more than a month of crazily posting everywhere, I also attracted hundreds of offline people. However, Then I didn’t make a penny. Because I found that it is actually very difficult to make money from this thing, and it is just a futile effort for 99% of people.
Later, I finally discovered that the most profitable thing at that time was actually the SP business. At that time, mobile phones were still a new thing for many people, and charging services related to mobile phones were very easy to do. Mainly because China Mobile was not strictly regulated at that time, most people would be bound to a lot of charging services inexplicably. Even if you just enter your mobile phone number online, you may be tricked, so my first website came out. I made a paid site for watching and downloading movies online. Then mainly rely on mobile phone payment. 30 yuan a month. Of course, excluding the share with SP, the final amount is only about 11 yuan. There was no concept of SEO at that time, and promotion mainly relied on advertising on websites with high traffic (mostly music sites). At that time, I invested 1,000 yuan a month in advertising fees, and the profit income was about 4,000 yuan. However, as a student who was still in school at that time, I was used to living in poverty. Suddenly I had some money and I didn’t know how to plan well. They spent money quickly, so I was still a moonlight tribe at that time.
I have been working on this site for about half a year, and by the beginning of 2004, China Mobile began to tighten its SP business, and the censorship was getting tighter and tighter. I felt that it might go downhill, so I planned to sell the site. Relying on the income of more than 4,000 yuan per month at that time, I quickly contacted the seller (sigh, there was no website as big as A5 to do transactions at that time. I just posted everywhere on some pheasant forums, and I was able to find people. It was really amazing! It sounds like a myth now). At that time, it was sold to another webmaster for 35,000. At this point, the first station is over.
Later, I created an anime forum. In fact, there were a lot more stations that could be done at that time. Many areas are blank or have little competition. I remember searching anime forums on Baidu at that time, and there were only a few decent websites. Now those few websites have become very large. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, the website did not continue and was aborted. Because it was time to graduate soon, in order to solve the problem of food first, I had no choice but to find a job. I have temporarily given up my beloved website business (let’s call it a career for the time being).
After starting work in early 2005, I became quite busy and stayed away from the webmaster team. I usually go online to read news, sports, etc. It wasn't until 2008 that I finally made up my mind to find time to build a website no matter how busy I was. However, for a veteran who has been away from the battlefield for a long time, he found that the world has undergone earth-shaking changes. When he searched the Internet, he found that SEO, CMS, GOOGLE ADSENSE, and Baidu themes were everywhere. Almost no one knows what it means. I have no choice but to bite the bullet and learn from scratch. I lament that this era is really making rapid progress. Even after the website was built, SEO was not taken seriously. It’s still the old way of posting everywhere. After a few months, I got about 1,000 traffic, and then I encountered a bottleneck. Coupled with the time constraints, I didn’t take care of it much afterwards. It wasn’t until this year that this site took shape. For the specific details of the process and the application of SEO, please refer to my previous post: "One month of actual Baidu optimization, daily IP from 1,000 to 20,000.: http://www.jiankunblog.com/post/2 .html
I have gone through the process of starting a station, then abandoning it midway, and then coming back again. I believe that as one of the thousands of webmasters who are keen on building websites, I will always stick to this matter. I would like to share this article with other webmasters!
