I have attended many gatherings, large and small, in Beijing, but I have never attended a gathering entirely focused on Internet marketing and Internet promotion. Last weekend, I was honored to be invited by Emark Network Academy to participate in the "Internet Marketing Annual Conference" organized by them.
The scale of the annual meeting is not too big, there are about 100 people in the venue. Most of them were young people studying online marketing. In addition, the organizer invited some guests from the industry to share their experiences and interact with each other. Participating in this annual meeting, I found that the Internet marketing method that the guests talked about the most and the students asked the most about was SEO (search engine marketing). I am a little touched and confused, why do people only think of SEO when they mention online promotion or online marketing? I have always felt that SEO is just one of the many methods of online promotion. In the past, people often added me on QQ, and the first sentence they asked me was whether I was doing SEO, or some online introductions to me were all about doing SEO, and some friends outside also introduced me as doing SEO. I was a little helpless. I wrote more than 100 online promotion articles, only a few of which were related to SEO. But after everyone read it, they only remembered that I was doing SEO and ignored everything else. If I were really an SEO master, I would admit it, but unfortunately I am not yet. I would rather everyone know that someone like Mou Changqing does online promotion, not SEO.
Legend: At the Internet Marketing Annual Conference
Take myself as an example. Before March 2008, I didn’t know how to do SEO, nor did I know what the real role of website link replacement was. During the period from 2005 to 2008, when I didn’t know SEO, didn’t I do any online promotion? Was it impossible to promote the website? Obviously not. I have done online promotion work in several companies in Beijing, but no company recruited me because I can do SEO, and no company recruited me to do SEO. So I want to say that SEO is indeed the most cost-effective among all promotion methods, but it cannot be the only one. The algorithms of search engines are changing every day. One day, Baidu gg and Google will be unhappy and they will lick you anyway. If your website only relies on SEO at this time, will it be closed down?
Another example: For example, there are two websites of the same type, both of which have 1WIP. One website only accounts for 5% of the total traffic from search engines, and the other website accounts for 70% of the total traffic from search engines. Which website do you think has done a better job in promotion? One day, both websites may be dropped by search engines. Which website will be least affected? And no one can guarantee that the traffic from search engines will be the same. Very targeted traffic also varies from website to website, depending on the optimized keywords. Generally in the industry, especially for old websites that have been established for more than one year, it is normal for search engine traffic to account for 20% of the total website traffic. If it only accounts for 5%, it means that the website is doing well. If it accounts for only 5%, it means that the website is doing well. If it is more than 50%, it is worse. Over-reliance on search engines is not a good thing. Last night when I was listening to the Webmaster's Voice online radio station, my friend Yue Gui also said that online advertising now only accounts for 5% of China's entire advertising market, and search engine traffic only accounts for 20% of website traffic. , calling on everyone not to think about website optimization every day, but to consider other methods.
I remember that at the beginning of 2006, I wrote two articles on "Refining Forum Promotion Methods". Many webmasters added me on QQ and asked me how I promoted it. Some of them were old webmasters who had been working on websites for several years. I was puzzled at the time. Some old webmasters who had been working on websites for several years came to ask me how to promote the website as a newcomer who had only been exposed to the Internet for half a year. Later I understood the reason. Because there are many webmasters who just build their website and then wait for search engines to get traffic. If the search engines don’t get traffic, they don’t know what to do and they are at a loss. Or some webmasters are very good at making websites. They change their websites every day in pursuit of so-called perfection and have no time to study and promote them. And I happen to be a person who doesn’t understand technology or SEO, so I stupidly did some other promotion methods at that time and tried every means to bring traffic to the website. Looking back now, I don’t feel any regrets. Although the promotion methods I used at that time may be slower and more laborious than SEO, I also gained more experience in other promotions.
Therefore, I hope that those who are doing online marketing training, or new people who are learning online promotion, will not just limit their vision to SEO. In addition to training SEO and learning SEO, you can also have a comprehensive understanding of other promotion methods. Only in this way can you become a true Internet marketing professional. In the training materials of Emark, I was very happy to find that in addition to website optimization training, there are also other practical promotion methods such as "online advertising" and "network integrated marketing practice". It is not just about website optimization. Of course, if you can achieve the ultimate in SEO, that would be very good. At the Internet Marketing Annual Conference over the weekend, I saw that a headhunting company disclosed the benefits of some SEO positions. The monthly salary is 150,000-200,000, which is very tempting, but this is There are too few real SEO masters these days.
It’s best to be able to perfect a certain promotion method. If you can’t do it to the extreme, it’s also good to be familiar with a few more promotion methods. At least you don’t have to worry about not finding a suitable job. What I have always asked of myself is to be familiar with and master all online promotion methods. As long as it can bring effective users to the website, I am willing to learn and try them.
