Microsoft launched the public beta version of SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 a few days ago, which led the industry to speculate that SP1 is not far away from its official release. However, Microsoft stated on its official blog today that SP1 will be released through normal channels according to the original plan. There will be no official release scheduled for spring 2011. For Windows 7, SP1 is a simple update that contains updates through Windows Update and problem fixes from partner and customer feedback.
Because the new features are only available for Windows Server 2008, Microsoft recommends that enterprises do not need to wait for SP1 to deploy Windows 7.
Currently, Windows 7 has captured 17% of the global operating market share.
