With the rapid decline in hard disk prices, more and more people are using dual hard disks. Generally, one of them is used as the main disk of the system and the other is used as the slave disk to store files. If you are using Windows 7, you will often hear the sound of the hard drive stopping and starting. For example, when you shut down the computer, the system will automatically start from the slave disk (if it was stopped before).
In fact, this is the automatic hard disk energy-saving function provided by Windows 7. Under the default settings, if the slave disk is not read or written for a period of time, Windows 7 will automatically shut down the hard disk and start the slave disk again when there are read and write operations. Although shutting down and starting up so frequently will not cause much harm to the service life of the hard drive, the sound of starting and stopping is also uncomfortable...
We can easily turn off this "awkward" feature. Go to the "Hardware and Sound → Power Options" window from the Control Panel, select the power plan you are currently using, click the "Change Plan Settings" button on the middle side, enter the "Edit Plan Settings" window and select "Change Advanced Power Settings". Expand "Hard Disk" and you can see that the default setting is to shut down the hard disk after 20 minutes. We can reset it, or simply set it to "Never", and it will take effect after confirmation.
Of course, if you are using Vista, you can do it in the same way.
