Ah Mea Culpa, you're lucky you're worth it. Mud Keys are the new key collectable in the Mea Culpa DLC for Blasphemous 2, but finding them can be tricky. Here we'll show where you can find each key, and what to do when you've got them all.
Mud Keys are what you need in order to actually go out and get Mea Culpa, your legendary blade from Blasphemous 1. There are five keys in total, and they're scattered all over the show. But fear not, we've got maps to help show you where to start, and where to go to get 'em.
Please note, that this guide will assume you've already explored a good majority of the base game content. As Mea Culpa is a very difficult piece of DLC (like, seriously), you're required to have all three base weapons and all movement abilities to even be able to get into it.
Also bear in mind that each section will only demonstrate how to reach the mud door that contains each following key (apart from the first, of course). Don't worry though, each 'key' area is entirely linear unlike literally every single other thing in this game, it'll just be filled with baddies and traps, so watch yourself.
One final thing to mention is that technically, you can take that first key and go to any of the other doors on this list. You don't have to follow this guide chronologically if there's any area you'd rather go check out first, just make sure to get at least the first key from Streets of Wake.
Starting the DLC gives you a key to begin, because you couldn't start the thing without it. You can get this key by heading directly down from the Prie Dieus seen on the video below in Street of Wakes, and heading right. You'll need to interact with the large grate on the floor, which will introduce you to the main thread you'll be following in the DLC. You'll be told to collect the key from one of the clay men stood nearby.
With that key, you can head to any of the other locations you fancy, but I'd suggest starting with the one right in front of you.
This is one of the new areas for the DLC, and it's a doozy. Enemies here do not mess around, so watch yourself if you're heading in. I'd suggest first heading straight on until you find your first Prie Dieus in the area, and then following on with the video from there. You'll be spending a lot of time in this area, so hope you like it.
You'll first want to head left, back the way you came, and into the Mausoleum itself. From there, explore around a little to see what you can discover, or follow the video to get straight to the key. Speak to the Clay Lady and listen to her (pretty understandable) woes, and she'll hand off the second key to you.
That's right, there's actually two keys hidden here. This second one will require you to do a good chunk of the dungeon at large to be able to find, so keep exploring until you find yourself the Prie Dieus seen on the map below. You can get a good look at the dungeon map at large, so you can always use one of the other sites as a point of reference to find it.
I really, really don't like Choir of Thorns. Not in the base game, not now. It's the Miyazaki 'swamp' but it's a forest and with way more spikes and those cloaked sorcery guys. Can't stand it.
Either way, your third key/door is here! And, it's in a new area, too. Bear in mind, you'll first need to nab yourself the 'Broken Step' ability, new from the DLC, to be able to walk over the silver platforms.
To start with, you'll actually want to jump to the teleport room in Choir of Thorns instead of heading for a Prie Dieus. The one in the base game is significantly closer than any Prie Dieus, so it's in your best interests to get to the new stuff. You can see it on the map in the video above if you can't quite remember where to find it. As with many locations with the release of the DLC, though, there's a whole bunch of new things to explore here, so take all the time you want checking it all out. Me though? Couldn't wait to be rid of the place.
This one is a bit of a longer route, both to the key door and to the key itself when you get there. You'll be using a Prie Dieus to get close again, and then you can follow on with the video below. The enemies in this area mean business, so don't get bogged down. Also, please disregard the staggering amount of damage I take, I'm only rushing through to save you, dear viewer, time.
Make sure when you're getting close to the key door that you remember to hit the green pot on the left, which I show off in the video. I mention this specifically because, in my own run, I lost my marbles because I simply didn't see it. Spent a good twenty minutes trying to figure out if I'd missed something. My perception is lacking to say the least.
This key is actually really easy to grab, as there'll only be a few enemies to face along the way, and the key room itself is incredibly short. Nice way to wrap things up if you're grabbing this last. Assuming you don't totally suck at platforming like I do, anyway.
You'll first want to head to the closest Prie Dieus from the base game, which is actually in the Sacred Entombments, and from there follow along with the video. Once again, plenty to see and do here, but fret not if you decide to rush through. You'll need to head back to this exact area once you've been to see where all these keys lead you, but I won't spoil that surprise for you.
Whichever key you end up getting last will be a unique item, called the Ceramic Key. Once you've got this item, you're free to progress to the final door, which is all the way back in the Icebound Mausoleum.
The final 'mud door' (surely there's a better name for them) is back in Icebound Mausoleum, as mentioned just now. You'll need to head all the way to the very bottom of the dungeon, which is quite the journey indeed. You'll first be facing off against one of the new bosses before you can even reach the door, and as you'd expect, it's one hell of a fight. Real bullet hell-y.
Once you've sorted the boss out, continue on towards the right from the boss room, and you'll see a far cleaner, less muddy looking door. That's the place to be, and that's all you'll need from the mud keys.
