As a mobile gacha RPG, AFK Journey is all about summoning fun characters and putting together strong team compositions with what you have. To help you out, here are the best teams and party compositions in AFK Journey.
Generally speaking, you’ll want your AFK Journey team to at least comprise of one tank, one healer or support character, and one damage dealer or DPS character. Depending on what you’re going for, you may opt to have two supports and two DPS, or you may even forego one of those for an extra tank.
At the time of writing, however, there is one clear-cut meta team composition in AFK Journey, as listed below:

The best overall meta team in AFK Journey still hasn’t changed all that much since the game’s initial launch. Thoran is still the best all-rounder tank you can get in the game, Odie is still one of the best DoT units in the game, and Smokey and Meerky is still top tier in terms of healing/support.
The only changes I’ve made here are adding Lily May and Vala into the mix, who are easily two of the best DPS characters you can get in the game. For general PvE content, most characters will do, such as Alsa or basically any other strong DPS unit. But of course, if you’re going for the best of the best, then you’ll absolutely want Lily May and/or Vala.
I’ve also since added Ludovic as a potential healer substitute for Smokey and Meerky — blasphemy, I know. Depending on whether you favor the Graveborn or Mauler core of this team, you really can’t go wrong with either healer. I’ve been equally happy with both healers at Supreme+, and you can take this team into pretty much any game mode in AFK Journey. This team even does decently in PvP, as I’ve taken it all the way to Champion III before, but of course, there are stronger compositions to look at if you really want to sweat in Arena. Koko is also a solid addition here, though I’ve found that the team seems to work better with the other two.
With the release of Tasi, you may want to slot her in here as well, and maybe replace Odie if you want a really strong crowd control character. But if you don’t have her, this team still works wonders.
For folks wanting to dive into the PvP modes in AFK Journey, there are a few other things to consider as well. Generally, you’ll want to get your Haste and attack speed up as much as possible, and you’ll also want to take your enemy down fast.

The meta is still centered around crowd control and the ability to nuke the enemy team quickly. If you’re not running some cracked Hypogean/Celestial team (see the next section), then you’re likely running the control team comp with Eironn.
Eironn, Damien, and Arden are the mainstays here. These three serve as the core of this team, with Eironn puppeteering and gathering up all your enemies into a bunch, while Arden nukes them to death. You’ll also want a strong tank like Thoran to keep things together, with Damien on support. That last role used to be filled by Carolina, but you can allow yourself a bit of flexibility here.
For instance, you may want to run Lily May or Alsa instead for extra DPS, or swap in Rowan to serve as an energy battery. You could also consider Vala if you have her built up, and use her to wreck the enemy’s backlines.
One other thing to note is that if you find yourself running into lots of Eironn/Damien/Arden comps, you may want to consider keeping Lily May in your formation, or consider Hewynn. The double healer comp makes it so that your team can’t be nuked as easily, and you can beat out the Eironn comp in a battle of attrition as their HP will slowly dwindle down due to the lack of healing. Lily May can also break out of the Eironn ult easily and interrupt it to prevent your team from getting nuked immediately.
Tasi could also potentially be a good substitute in that flex slot as well. She’s a very strong Wilder crowd control character who can really mess up enemy teams. It depends on what your priority is; for folks who like disrupting and interrupting enemy strategies, Lily May all the way. If you want to focus on damage and CC, go with Tasi.
For the most part, the PvP meta is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future, at least until more people start getting Celestials and Hypogeans, which brings me to my next section…
Speaking of Hypogeans and Celestials, these are the cream of the crop. You may want to give Reinier a shot, if you’ve got enough pulls banked in the Stargaze Station. As more players have gotten their hands on Hypogean characters, Reinier is becoming increasingly prevalent, and also serves as a good counter to the Eironn comp, or even as a supplement.

This is an incredibly annoying composition to deal with as Reinier instantly takes away one of your opponent’s backlines, and lets Vala destroy them completely. Temesia and Antandra shouldn’t be underestimated here as well, as they can disrupt your opponent’s formation, while Lily May continues to rain terror down on them.
If you want to go full Celestial/Hypogean, focus on getting Reinier to Mythic+ first. After that, Scarlita should be your next priority thanks to her flexibility. Once these two are sorted, then you’ll want to look at Phraesto and Talene in that order. The reason why Talene is so low on my priority list is because there are plenty of strong DPS units already in the game, and you don’t necessarily need her to perform.
With the release of Dunlingr, he’s also a possible contender for the tank slot, though I’ve found it hard to make him work. His ability to shut down ults is great, but when it affects your team as well, I’d much rather have Lily May in that spot instead.

Dream Realm pits you against a different elemental-type boss each day, so your party composition will change depending on the element and what you need to exploit it. However, there are some mainstays that you want to hold on to no matter who the boss is: Thoran, Odie, and Smokey and Meerky.
Thoran and Smokey and Meerky should be no-brainers at this point. However, Odie is a sneaky DPS pick; his poison attacks are extremely deadly, and he’s absolutely worth ascending and investing in until Mythic+ for his increased attack speed and ability to insta-kill poisoned enemies once their HP’s low enough. This can come in very handy for both story battles and Dream Realm.
While Korin and Marilee used to be mainstays for Dream Realm boss teams as well, that has changed with the introduction of Lily May, who has quickly proven to be the most powerful character released in AFK Journey since Vala. She’s fantastic for Dream Realm, and also a great pick for PvP matchups.
