"This War of Mine", released on November 15, 2014, is a strategy simulation game with a survival theme. The story describes a group of civilians who are just trying to survive in a city under attack. There is a shortage of food and medicine. You also have to be wary of snipers and scavengers at all times. Players can understand the feelings of civilians at war from different angles through the game.
The depth of the game's stark depiction of reality, in which morality is eroded under the weight of war, has broken the boundaries of the games industry while also earning a spot in prestigious galleries such as London's Imperial War Museum and New York's Museum of Modern Art. And continue to raise funds for "War Children" through charity DLC. In February 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine, the development team at that time donated all the proceeds from the one-week sales of "This War of Mine", raising US$850,000 for the Ukrainian Red Cross.
In addition, This War of Mine has influenced academic environments around the world, providing a unique way for lecturers and students to understand the brutal realities of war. The game became the first video game to be officially recognized as an "auxiliary teaching material" by the Polish Ministry of Education, and the educational version is available for free to Polish students and teachers on the government website. The game recently received a Special Recognition Award from Amnesty International for its role in raising awareness of international humanitarian law.
Yet despite all the accolades, there is still unease about the state of the world today. The developer said: "The world still needs work." And that's why the new DLC is called "Celebration of Paranoia." The official stated: "Innocent lives are still lost on the battlefield, new conflicts continue to break out, and arms manufacturing continues to escalate in order to meet the needs of war. Civilians and soldiers still face unimaginable atrocities. The world is bleeding, and we believe in continuing to promote change to It’s important.”
In "Paranoid Celebration", players will return to the war-torn Pogoren and follow the story of Katia, an experienced war reporter. As she works to write a book about the brutal realities of war, a missile attack destroys her home, forcing her to embark on an even harsher struggle to survive and recover the footage she's collected.
The development team stated: “All proceeds from the DLC ‘Paranoia Celebration’ will be donated to our charity partners in this anniversary event: War Child, International Special Organization, Free Ukraine Foundation and the Polish Independent Games Foundation. "
