How to choose hull armor in "Age of Sails"? Some players may not know yet, so let’s take a look at the armor matching guide for “Age of Sails”.
"Age of Sails" Armor Matching Guide
After I came across the improved armor drawings in Cape Town today, I did an armor test on a whim.
I picked up a 150 bounty in Hangzhou at e123n21. Our single flagship Royal Sun (this ship has a durability of 5000+ and is strong enough to withstand beatings). The opponent's 3 Guangzhou ship has a side light cannon that does 40 damage.
For each test, I entered e123n21 from e124n21 with half sail and parked the ship with its bow facing west. This ensured that the three Guangdong ships coming from above would spread out in a long snake formation at the first time and start concentrated fire and bombardment when they reached the stern of our ship. After that, they will continue to circle and bombard.
The damage of the opponent's 3 Guangzhou ships is generally in the range of 36-42. Occasionally there will be 57-65 damage, but rarely. The test was from the time when the Royal Sun was concentrated until it was sunk. The test results are as follows:
Dual-type improved armor (protection rate 40%, each armor reduces damage by 32), the damage taken when triggering damage reduction is 1, the time taken to be sunk five times: 2 minutes 55, 2 minutes 23, 3 minutes 08, 2 minutes 32, 3 minutes 01;
Double light improved armor (protection rate 80%, each armor reduces damage by 16), the damage taken when the damage reduction is triggered is 7-8, the time taken to be sunk five times: 4 minutes 40, 4 minutes 35, 4 minutes 39, 4 minutes 41,4 points 43;
One each of light and heavy improved armor (protection rate is 60%). When damage reduction is triggered, the damage taken is also 1. The time it took to be sunk twice was: 3 minutes 56 and 3 minutes 58.
Judging from the test results, the mechanism of damage reduction is not that armor directly reduces damage, but that the protection rate must be ensured before sufficient damage reduction can be triggered. Therefore, instead of wearing double armor, double light armor has the best effect.
The damage reduction rate I tested is calculated like this. First, the protection rate triggers damage reduction. The 80% protection rate of double light armor ensures that it has an 80% chance of triggering damage reduction, while the double light armor has a 40% chance of triggering damage reduction. This is double light armor. The reason why it is not as good as Double Light is because the protection rate causes its trigger damage reduction to be low.
After the damage reduction is triggered, it is a pure attack-defense. Guangzhou's damage is 40, the damage reduction effect of modified light metal armor is -16 for a single one, and -32, 40-32=8 for double light. My Royal Sun is reducing damage. The damage received after triggering is in the range of 7-8. The damage reduction effect of modified heavy metal armor is -32 for single and -64 for double. There will be no negative damage, so the damage is only 1. If the light and heavy are combined, the damage reduction is 40. , the damage to Guangzhou Shipyard is also 1.
Also, because the Guangzhou ship was used in the test, it was a light cannon with 40 gun ports and 40 damage on the side. For a ship like Daifuku with 9 gun ports and a cannon damage of 48, it is based on the situation where a single salvo hits all the targets. If calculated:
Double light (80% protection rate reduces damage by 32) triggers damage reduction 7 times, hits the full amount 2 times, and damages 7x16+2x48=208 in a single time
Light and heavy combination (60% protection rate, damage reduction 48), trigger damage reduction 5 times, hit full amount 4 times, single damage 5x1+4x48=197
Double combination (40% protection rate, damage reduction 64), triggering damage reduction 4 times, hitting full amount 5 times, single damage 4x1+5x48=244
If it is Galen or Dagai, both cannons have 6 ports and 48 damage.
Double light damage reduction 5 times, 1 hit, single damage 5x16+48=128
4 light and heavy damage reductions, 2 hits, single damage 4x1+2x48=98
Double 2 damage reductions, 4 hits, single damage 2x1+4x48=194
Because this is only a single shot, there is still rounding, but obviously the double shot will not be considered. So if all 5 rounds of salvos are hit, it will be a great blessing for 9 gun ports and 48 damage:
Double light reduced damage 36 times, hit 9 times, received damage 36x16+48x9=1008
27 light and heavy damage reductions, 18 hits, damage received 27x1+48x18=891
If it is a big Gai or Galen with 6 guns and 48 damage:
Double light 24 times damage reduction, 6 hits, damage received 24x16+48x6=672
The severity is 18 damage reductions and 12 hits, and the damage received is 18x1+48x12=594
According to probability calculation, it is indeed better to combine light and heavy to reduce damage.
In terms of armor type, damage reduction effect is: Wood -6, Light Wood -6, Heavy Wood -12, Metal -10, Light Metal -10, Heavy Metal -20, Improved Metal -16, Light Improved Metal -16, Heavy Improved Metal -32;
In terms of protection rate, double wood, double metal, and double improved metal (without distinction between light and heavy) are all 60%, then light armor protection rate +10%, heavy armor protection rate -10%
