Recently, it was reported that Zhang Xiaoran, the head of ByteDance’s video editing products, has resigned. Zhang Xiaoran was an early member of "Lian Meng", the predecessor of Jiuying. Since the end of 2021, he has been responsible for the overall business of Jiuying, Xingtu, CapCut and other products, and has witnessed the entire process of the product from its founding period to its rapid development period. During her tenure, CapCut and its overseas version CapCut have made remarkable achievements, with monthly active users exceeding 800 million and total annual revenue approaching 10 billion yuan. She has also actively deployed AI innovation and launched functions such as digital people and AI intelligent oral editing.
It is understood that Zhang Xiaoran graduated from Wuhan University of Science and Technology and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. At the beginning of 2024, she began to report to Zhang Nan, the new head of film editing and CapCut business and the former CEO of Douyin. At present, ByteDance has not responded to this matter.
During Zhang Xiaoran's tenure, Cut Screening achieved significant growth. As a video editing product launched by ByteDance in 2019, Cutting has developed into a full-matrix product covering individuals, professional users and enterprises. According to reports, in 2024, the combined monthly active users of Cut Screen and its overseas version CapCut will exceed 800 million, and the total annual revenue will be close to 10 billion yuan, maintaining triple-digit growth. In particular, CapCut has performed well in overseas markets, accounting for 81% of the total active users of mobile video editing, ranking second in the U.S. App Store downloads.
Under the wave of AI, Jiuying is actively deploying AI innovation. The product has launched digital people, AI intelligent oral broadcast editing, Vincent pictures and other functions, and will launch the AI video application "Jimeng" in May 2024. ByteDance is planning to increase its resource investment in "Jimeng" and hopes to build it into a comprehensive application platform for games, videos, and Metaworld.
As of press time, Bytedance has not responded to Zhang Xiaoran’s resignation.
Zhang Xiaoran's resignation has brought certain uncertainties to the future development direction and strategic layout of Jiuying, as well as ByteDance's future plans in the field of video editing, and deserves continued attention. His contribution during his tenure is obvious to all, and his future development is worth looking forward to.
