Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 is for servers. After installation, you will find a lot of troubles. Some functions are not available, others cannot be opened, and even listening to music and playing games are problematic.
In fact, Server 2003 strengthened the security and stability based on XP, and some workstation systems had to be shut down. We use Win 2003 as a workstation, so of course we need to reopen these services to give it a new lease of life. Let's also lose weight and remove those server functions that are no longer needed.
1. Close the server wizard
After installing win 2003, you will find that "Manage your server" appears. Check the "Do not display this page when logging in" in the lower left corner. If you can't find it when starting up, you can go to Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Manage your server to find it.
2. User account login
In 2003, the server's ctrl+alt+del login method was used. There was no login welcome in Win XP. It was still possible to create an account to log in for personalization. In Start-Run-enter "lusrmgr.msc"-Local Users and Groups. Right-click "Create New User" in Users, enter account information and create an account.
Then add the newly created account to the Administrators group, right-click on the user you created, select Properties - Belong to - Add... - Advanced - Find Now, double-click the administrator to get permissions similar to Administrator.
3. Install a firewall
Even though Win2003 has high security and we frequently upgrade system patches, there is no guarantee that it will not be attacked. However, Win2003 requires special programs, and ordinary stand-alone software cannot be installed. You must use the server version of the program. Recommended: Symantec Norton Antivirus Enterprise Edition virus firewall + Personal Firewall 2003 network firewall.
4. Improve system performance
Right-click the "My Computer" icon, enter Properties-Advanced-Performance-Settings, and adjust for optimal performance.
5. Speed up the taskbar
Remove everything except "Keep the taskbar in front of other windows" for the following reasons:
Automatically hide the taskbar: avoid not being able to find the taskbar and occupying the system
Group similar taskbar buttons: programs are too concentrated and difficult to find
Display clock: No need to use a clock if you have a watch or mobile phone
Hide inactive icons: I don’t know which applications are currently in use
6. Customize the classic start menu
Only use "Show Run" and "Show small icons in the start menu". Others are to extend the taskbar and add special effects and functions. Remember! The fewer functions, the faster
7. Improve display speed
Right-click on the desktop to enter Display Properties, turn off desktop wallpaper and screen saver, and uncheck all in Appearance-Effects.
8. Resource manager speed up
In Explorer or My Computer, select Tools-Folder Options-General and select "Use Windows traditional style folders".
Uncheck all options except "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types." In particular, turn off "remember the view settings of each folder", "display prompt information when the mouse points to folders and desktop items", and "display file size information in folder prompts" and remove the personalized settings.
The third is the optimization of the resource manager. Use the "list" form during viewing to display content with the smallest icons and information. In the toolbar menu, remove the standard buttons and links. All these functions can be achieved through shortcut keys, and leaving them too much is useless.
9. Turn off desktop icons
Right-click on the desktop, select Arrange Icons, uncheck Show desktop icons, turn off all icons, and save a lot of resources.
10. IE optimization
The interface optimization of IE is basically the same as that of Resource Manager, which is to reduce the function bar as much as possible, leaving only the address bar. However, there are a lot of fun things in the Tools-Internet option.
General - Use a blank page for the home page that can be changed. There is no need to load any web pages when opening, and the speed is very fast.
Advanced - Multimedia, remove "Enable automatic image resizing" and display the entire image directly to reduce the workload of IE.
Browse and remove "Enable scheduled synchronization of offline items". Today when monthly broadband subscription is so popular, what is the use of going offline?
Remove "Use smooth scrolling" and let the navigation bar on the left quickly turn pages according to the normal page up/down method.
Remove "Send notification after download is complete". It will notify you even if the download is complete, which is superfluous.
If we remove "Show Go button in address bar", the URL we go to will be of little use to us.
Remove "Automatically check for Internet Explorer updates". Manual updates are always faster than automatic updates, and there is no need for IE to constantly check whether updates are needed.
11. Turn off automatic updates
Right-click on the "My Computer" icon, go to System Properties - Automatic Updates, and uncheck "Keep My Computer Up to Date". Let us develop a good habit of updating regularly, so that everyone can avoid being attacked by viruses such as "Shock Wave".
12. Turn off remote assistance
Right-click on the "My Computer" icon, go to System Properties - Remote. Under normal circumstances, turn off all remote assistance to avoid unnecessary trouble.
13. Use power consumption mode
In order to keep the computer in optimal condition, turn off all power-saving modes, select the "Demo" plan in Control Panel - Power Usage Plan, and never turn off the monitor, hard drive or system standby.
14. Keyboard speed
In Control Panel - Keyboard, pull both "Repeat Delay" and "Repeat Speed" to the right, and you will see the effect immediately when editing text.
