When changing the domain name of a website, you must use a 301 redirect. The reason for doing this is because 301 redirects can guide search engines to re-include web pages under the new domain name and eliminate web pages under the old domain name. However, countless examples have proven that 301 redirection is very effective for Google, but it is basically useless for Baidu. I recently experienced a domain name change (replace www.xxx.gov.cn with www.xx.gov.cn ). Any content of www.xxx.gov.cn searched from a search engine can be correctly redirected to www. xx.gov.cn , indicating that there is no error in the 301 redirection. This statement is proved to be completely correct.
I changed the domain name about 2 months ago. In less than a week after that, Google's old domain name rankings were completely replaced by the new domain names. And in the latest PR update, the new domain name fully obtained the original PR value of the old domain name. But Baidu's reaction was very strange. First of all, Baidu does include pages under new domain names, and the number of included pages is very large. But Baidu always keeps updating old domain names. Secondly, in terms of ranking, the ranking of old domain names has dropped slightly, but overall it is still very high. The new domain name has no ranking at all. Even if you directly search the website title, you can't find it in the first three pages.
I once wondered whether Baidu insists that 2 domain names represent 2 sites. The content of the new domain name completely duplicates the content of the old domain name, so the new domain name was punished. So I wrote an email to the Baidu administrator. The answers I received basically didn’t answer the question. I don’t know if it’s because of the level of Baidu administrators, or whether it’s because of the deliberate avoidance of such issues.
My general feeling is that Baidu's response to 301 redirection should not be due to Baidu not being aware of this problem, nor is it a technical problem on Baidu (which should not be very difficult to deal with). I really don't understand why I reacted like this. It is speculated that maybe one day, when the old domain name is completely inaccessible, the ranking of the new domain name can be truly obtained. But so far, I'm not willing to make such an attempt. I plan to completely stop the old domain name after half a year, if the ranking of the new domain name on Baidu remains unchanged, and then see the effect.
I hope I don't have the chance to make such an attempt.
