The acquisition soap opera between Microsoft and Yahoo is not over yet. Microsoft has been unable to restrain its desire for the search market and launched the Bing brand to replace Live search.
I tried out the Bing search engine, and its gorgeous interface, convenient video and image search functions, and embedded maps are really eye-catching. However, the author does not believe that Bing can help Microsoft gain a large market share in the search market and surpass Yahoo to threaten Google's search position.
Reason 1: Google and Microsoft are both the world's top Internet software companies. From a technical perspective, it is very easy for either Yahoo or Google to implement any of the popular functions currently implemented by Bing. In fact, it’s not that Google doesn’t want to add many features, but it really doesn’t. For example, a gorgeous interface will actually directly affect the user’s login speed.
Reason two: User inertia is difficult to change. Just like the Chrome browser from the end of last year, the interface is gorgeous enough, right? Can the function be powerful? But after the commotion, Chrome's market share is still only around 1%. User inertia is the biggest bottleneck that directly affects the increase in market share of new products, and Bing has not demonstrated the advantages of firefox in terms of security and low system occupancy compared to IE. At present, more than 60% of users are satisfied with the search engines they are currently using, which also makes Bing's marketing very difficult.
Reason three: As a new product, Bing still has many loopholes. For example, the vulnerability that allowed Bing to browse pornographic videos was revealed. I believe Bing still has a long way to go in improving its performance.
In summary, the author believes that Bing's current interface advantages, video and image search advantages, and embedded map design cannot help Bing quickly increase its market share. If you want to defeat Yahoo and Google, improving search accuracy will be the focus of the next search engine competition. In any case, competition is a good thing. The emergence of Bing will further intensify competition among search engines in terms of functions and interfaces, and will also allow users to enjoy better search services.
