For more than half a month, I have paid more attention to the ranking of my website on Baidu. The reason is of course that I plan to optimize the Chinese website, and Baidu is by far the Chinese search engine with the largest market share.
In the past, because I was working on English websites, I didn’t pay much attention to Chinese search engines such as Baidu. After more than half a month of observation, I have some small insights to share and discuss with everyone.
First, Baidu Spider is extremely active. From the analysis of server log files, the frequency and quantity of Baidu spider crawls are very large. Baidu spiders visit my forum every day and crawl at least dozens of web pages. My forum has only been open for less than a month, and the number of web pages is limited. It can be seen that Baidu Spider's activities are already considerable. It seems that massive crawling is Baidu's strength, and no other search engine can compare with it.
But what’s interesting is that Baidu’s number of Chinese web pages is not the largest. In addition, the frequency of Baidu spider crawling seems to be related to the update of the web page. A website that is updated every day should attract more frequent visits from Baidu spiders.
Second, Baidu’s ranking algorithm seems to pay more attention to within-page factors. The importance of external links is not very high compared to Google. My forum has been open for less than a month and there are very few external links. However, because the structure of the forum itself is relatively optimized, some keywords that are not very competitive have good rankings on Baidu.
Third, there should be no factors similar to Google's sandbox effect in Baidu's ranking algorithm, or the impact of time on rankings is very weak. The rankings of different keywords of my blog appear in Baidu search results almost at the same time, and there is no phenomenon that popular keywords appear slower.
Fourth, in order to rank well in Baidu search results, the target keywords should appear in the page in complete matches. For example, if you want your website to appear at the front when users search for "website optimization", then on your web page, the four words "website optimization" should appear completely and continuously, and "website" cannot appear in the first place. One paragraph, "Optimize" appears in the second paragraph.
Fifth, Baidu’s ranking algorithm seems to be based on web pages and takes less into account the theme of the entire website. Linked to the previous point, this shows that Baidu’s ranking algorithm lacks complete semantic analysis.
To give an example, the words "envelope and box trading network" appeared in an article on my forum. Of course, that is just an example. In Baidu, my forum was ranked in the top ten under "Box Trading Network", but it was relegated to the second page after a few days.
Obviously, my forum has nothing to do with Taobao shopping guide. Baidu has not comprehensively considered the theme of my entire website.
Sixth, Baidu is more sensitive to search engine optimization techniques. Excessively optimized web pages will not get good rankings in Baidu searches.
Seventh, generally speaking, Baidu optimization ranking is relatively simple compared to Google ranking. As long as your website complies with the most basic user-friendly principles and search engine optimization principles, you should get a pretty good ranking.
Another thing worth noting is that Baidu spider crawling frequency is one of its strengths, and it also brings great convenience to website builders. We can experiment with different techniques and see results quickly. It's a bit like AltaVista many years ago.
The above is just my preliminary observation. There may be many errors. I hope experts can correct me.
How to promote the website? There are many targeted articles on this issue in the communication column of the Envelope Box Trading Network Forum. Friends who are interested may wish to check it out and share their experiences together.
