One of the most common complaints I hear from bloggers is that no matter how hard they try, they can't get 100 page views per day. In fact, the early stages of blogging are the hardest because you need to work hard, but hard work may not necessarily lead to results.
If you're in this situation, this simple strategy is sure to get your blog page views over 1,000 per day. In fact, even if your blog breaks through this traffic, this strategy will still be useful for you to get more traffic.
What you need to do is make sure you implement these four steps as planned and spend two and a half hours a day - of course, if you have more time, you can increase the time for each step appropriately.
Step One: Killer Article (One hour a day)
Spend an hour brainstorming, researching, and writing a killer article (also called link bait, anchor, etc.).
Remember your goal is to publish a killer article every week. If you can’t do that, publish one every two weeks. That means spending an hour on the same article every day. In other words, each killer article takes 5 to 10 hours.
A killer article is a long, well-structured article that provides a lot of value to potential readers. For example, if you have a blog about web design, you could write a post about "100 Free Resources for Designers." Here are some tips for writing killer articles:
1) Create a long resource list;
2) Write a detailed tutorial on how to do it;
3) Discover a solution to a common problem in your field and write it down;
4) Conduct an in-depth analysis on a topic that everyone talks about in general.
When your readers see this article, you want them to have the following reaction: "Wow, that's great! I better bookmark this and share it on the blog and Twitter with my readers and friends."
Part 2: Online Communication (30 minutes a day)
Networking is important, especially when you first start blogging. The time you need to spend online each day can be used to do the following:
1) Leave a message on a peer blog;
2) Link to articles from peer blogs;
3) Communicate with fellow bloggers through Email, IM or Twitter
Remember your goal is to build real friendships, so don’t approach other bloggers thinking they will help promote your blog. Reach out to other bloggers because you respect their work and think you can grow together.
Step 3: Promotion (30 minutes a day)
The first thing to do is promote your killer article. Once the killer article is published, you should mention it in as many places as possible. For example:
1) Let people in your circle know (but don’t ask them to link to your article);
2) Let other webmasters and bloggers in the same industry know;
3) Ask your friends to submit your articles to social bookmarking sites;
4) Ask your friends to share your article on Twitter;
5) Mention your article in online forums and/or newsgroups.
If you still have time left, spend it on SEO and social media marketing to promote your blog as a whole. This ranges from keyword research to promotion via Facebook and guest posts.
Step 4: Ordinary articles (30 minutes a day)
Just like a man cannot survive on bread alone, a blog cannot survive on killer articles alone. Regular articles are those that you will publish frequently on your blog. For example, you could publish a killer article every Monday and regular articles from Tuesday to Friday. Here are some tips for writing general articles:
1) Link to an article on another blog and express your opinion;
2) Publish a news item about your field;
3) Ask your readers questions and prepare for discussion;
4) Share a new resource or tip that will be useful to readers.
Killer articles are important for promoting your blog and gaining new readers, while regular articles diversify your content and keep your readers engaged.
