I believe every player is very familiar with the "Contra" series! Especially the first generation, we have played through it hundreds or thousands of times. So, here’s a soul torture: Do you know the origins of the BOSS in levels six and seven?
I guess many friends don’t know!
Today, the editor will review this game with everyone and see what secrets the bosses have that we don’t know!
In fact, each BOSS in the "Contra" series has a better background than the last, but most of them can be killed instantly, including the BOSS "High-Speed Anti-Gravity Device Adapter" in the fifth level.
As shown below:
Although this thing belongs to alien technology and is a defense system built by Kestrel in the plot, it happens to be the least vulnerable.
I always thought it was a robot that would explode after being defeated by us. It seems to us that the machine exploded.
It wasn't until many years later that I discovered that this guy was not a pure machine, but an entity constructed from biological genes, which meant that it was a living entity. The explosion special effects are common to all BOSS, including the heart in the last level.
According to official information: The armor on the Kabuti Titan Soldier's body is used to restrain the muscles and prevent them from swelling too much and deforming.
The Kabuti Titan is the most difficult of all BOSSs. It has a body of 3.3 meters and is good at using geared flying saucers to attack intruders. And it uses its huge body to approach and kill humans.
Fortunately, the protagonist has good jumping ability, so you can jump directly over him. This is more than three meters high!
If we use S+R when encountering it, we can kill it directly without any need to dodge. This is basically how speedrunning is done today.
In the Famicom version, the original Kabutei Titan Soldier texture was not what we see today.
As shown below:
It doesn't look scary at all!
Is there a prototype of the Kabuti Titan Weapon?
The answer is yes. The prototype comes from Hayao Miyazaki's comic "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" released in 1982, in which the Titan Soldier once appeared.
So what did the Kabuti Titan Soldier look like in the first place? What changes have occurred in its later form?
Arcade version of Kabutei Titan Soldier
In the arcade version, the Kabuti Titan Soldier will appear twice. In our opinion, it is just a relatively large enemy soldier, not a BOSS.
The main attack method is throwing flying saucers. If you get too close, you will be trampled to death. If it is not eliminated within a period of time, it will come out and kill you, and then leave.
His arms don't look like those of a machine, they just feel like a strong human being.
Appears again in MAX2 "Contra"
PC "3D Contra"
Years later, all of Contra's enemy soldiers have been reset again, including the Kabuti Titan Soldier, and now we can finally see its true face.
"Contra: Return"
Kabuti's Titan Soldier has turned into a real robot, and its appearance and color matching are a bit like Optimus Prime in "Transformers".
But players who are a little more experienced in the game will find out how the shape of this thing is exactly the same as that of "Batman: Arkham Knight"! It feels a bit incredible, such a blatant "borrowing".
Generally translated as the "Final Door", it is the BOSS encountered at the end of the energy zone in "Contra".
The seventh level is an important hub area for the Alien and Kestrel parts to transport supplies, so we will find a large number of minecarts and traps. There are a lot of resources here. We can intercept the weapons delivery device in the air at any time and obtain good weapons.
The "Final Gate" is the entrance to the alien gate and the last barrier. As long as you pass through it, it will be clear and you will have a panoramic view of all the aliens.
The picture is very long, so it is recommended to view it horizontally:
It is estimated that the players back then were very confused. This BOSS had no combat power at all. It was even easier to deal with than the BOSS in the first level. You only need to rush over and fight to pass the level directly. There is no danger at all, and I don’t know why it is designed like this!
The Final Gate is an "automatic defense mechanism" and the strongest wall built by Kestrel. It is the gate to the alien lair. At this time, the aliens do not yet have the ability to adapt to the earth's environment, so the inner and outer layers are all defense systems. The so-called lair is actually the body of the Heavenly King Ghost. After all, we performed the eight levels in its belly.
The difficulty originally set for Final Door is not what we see now. But later, considering the operability of the FC version, the turret at the gate was removed, so that players could directly use their guns to top it.
If the player's bullets at this time are very rubbish, such as white bullets, M, F, etc., it is very likely that the BOSS will not be eliminated in the first time, which will be more difficult. The BOSS's counterattack ability is still very strong, and the attack range of the bombs it releases is relatively wide.
After years of struggling, players have finally been smoothed out by the years, and they no longer have the "ambition" of playing arcade games.
The arcade joystick I bought at home has been gathering dust in the corner for countless years. Only then did I realize that the greatest pleasure is to reminisce about the arcade "between the lines". After all, it was our most beautiful youth!
After calming down, the players gradually discovered details that they had not noticed when playing games in the past. Those seemingly ordinary props also contained a certain culture and a certain story.
When we were young, we only focused on playing games and seemed to miss a lot of scenery along the way!
