Six Apart today released the latest Beta version of Movable Type 4, a very exciting blog platform targeting two different customers - consumer customers (such as ReadWriteWeb.com, which uses MT) and enterprise customers. What is also interesting is that Six Apart also released the Movable Type open source project to prepare for the open source version of Movable Type in the third quarter of this year.
MT4 brings over 50 new features and "a completely redesigned user interface," including a more advanced WYSIWYG editor and a system Dashboard that can display dynamic images. MT4 also claims to be “a social media platform” that allows users to turn their readers into a community. Essentially this means that readers can become members of the site and work with the author to build the site - including sharing photos, videos and audio. There is also a new scoring framework, and more community functions will be added in future Beta versions.
Movable Type is free for individual users.
