The author recently installed Windows 7 on his computer, but found that he could not log in to any webpage using IE. Check the connection status of the wireless router and find that the signal is very strong but the connection has not been successful. I thought the WPA wireless password I set had been changed, so I reset it, but still couldn't connect successfully. Then I canceled the wireless encryption, but the result was still unable to connect.
Many times, the system affects the normal use of the wireless network. Is the wireless router malfunctioning? The author used a network cable to connect the wireless router and the computer, but found that the computer could access the Internet normally. Apparently there is nothing wrong with the wireless router's Internet connection.
Could it be that the wireless function of the wireless router is malfunctioning? The author tried to connect to the wireless network in Windows Vista system and found that the wireless connection was very smooth. I had no choice but to find a friend who also had Windows 7 installed, and used his computer to wirelessly connect to my wireless router, but found that there was also the problem of being unable to connect. Therefore, the author determines that the wireless router may conflict with the Windows 7 wireless network system. The author replaced a Huawei 3Com wbr204g wireless router for testing and found that the Windows 7 system successfully connected to the wireless router and could access the Internet. It seems that there is really something wrong with my wireless router.
Since the wireless router is not compatible with the Windows 7 wireless network system, does it mean that it must be replaced? In order to save money, the author decided to first search for relevant information about the wireless router to further troubleshoot. On the management page of the wireless router, I found that its firmware version is 4.2.0 Build 081225, which should have been released in December 2008, which is relatively old. Windows 7 was released in October 2009. It seems that it may be wireless. The router firmware does not support Windows 7. The author downloaded the relevant firmware updated on July 30, 2009 from the official website of the wireless router. After upgrading the firmware, I found that the wireless router’s firmware version has been updated to 4.2.0 Build 090730.
Will updating the firmware solve the problem? After setting the network parameters, the author's Windows 7 no longer rejects the wireless router, and I can finally surf the Internet under Windows 7.
The problem
In addition to a hardware system, a wireless router also has a software system—firmware—that directs the work of the hardware. Users generally use a simple web page mode to manage wireless routers, and may not realize that the web page is actually the shell of the wireless router software system. When unable to access the Internet, users can check the working status of the wireless router through the management page of the wireless router if the settings are correct. If the wireless router is working normally but cannot connect to the wireless network under Windows 7, then it is likely that the software system of the wireless router is incompatible with the wireless connection function of Windows 7. When designing the firmware of many older wireless routers, they did not consider applications under Windows 7 systems. Therefore, Windows 7 sometimes rejects wireless routers.
Dr.Known:
Microsoft claims that Windows 7 is perfectly compatible with more than 90% of hardware. In other words, Windows 7 still has some hardware conflicts. At present, the settings of wireless routers have been fool-proof, and upgrading the firmware is easy. Users who plan to use Windows 7 should upgrade the firmware of wireless routers in time.
