The first big deal: CN domain name
Before December 2009, what did it mean to register a CN domain name? It meant that you had your own domestic top-level domain name. Yes, everyone thought so at the time. As long as you renew on time, the CN domain name will always belong to you, and according to the official statement, it is protected by law.
In 2007, CNNIC launched the "1 yuan registration for CN domain name" promotion, which pushed the CN domain name to a climax. In December 2009, it suddenly informed individuals that they could no longer register CN domain names, and required that already registered CN domain names must also be under the name of the company. . Of course, this is not the worst. The worst thing is that your website has used the CN domain name for a long time. If you abandon the CN domain name, it will mean a huge loss, but if you continue to hold it, it will be like holding a time bomb.
Someone asked why the CN domain name was opened to individuals in the first place, and various promotional methods were used to make Chinese people register like crazy? Why? Didn’t you see that CNNIC has repeatedly released data on the registration volume of CN domain names in the past two years, indicating the registration volume of CN domain names in China? Being number one in the world is ultimately a face-saving project. COM has reached a certain number of registrations, and our CN can't be worse. How can we make the number of CN domain names exceed that of COM? In total, registration is open to individuals. With hundreds of millions of Chinese people, I still don't believe that it will not be on the list. . Later, I found that the price advantage was not big, so I just kept doing it and held a 1 yuan promotion.
With the opening of CN domain name registration for individuals and the 1 yuan promotion, the number of CN domain name registrations has increased explosively in the past two years, and CNNIC is very proud of it. When CCTV suddenly announced that individuals registering CN domain names was the root cause of the proliferation of pornographic websites, and pointed the finger at CNNIC, CNNIC was somewhat caught off guard. It's more important to you. Simply prohibit individuals from registering CN domain names. If anything happens in the future, it will have nothing to do with you. Of course, what individual webmasters will do with the large number of websites they own using CN domain names has nothing to do with CNNIC. At this time, you will regret why you did not choose COM directly at the beginning, and you will know what despair is.
The second largest: Advertising alliance
When a certain webmaster finally began to lament: The advertising alliance is getting worse day by day, and he can only make a living by relying on some pop-ups and clicks, and he cannot even make back the cost of the website. MAOY is here to tell you responsibly that relying on various advertising alliances is no longer a way for individual webmasters to get rich.
Someone said: Hey! There are many advertising alliances that you don’t know about. The unit price is high without deducting the volume. Don’t you see that many websites are very prosperous? Haha, I have been working on the Internet for seven years and have done more than a hundred alliances, but The advertising alliances that exist now and are pretty good are Baidu Alliance and Google Ads. On the contrary, many alliances that were very effective at the beginning have closed down within a few months. Can such alliances be sustained for a long time... This does not count. Do you think that advertising alliances really do not deduct amounts? Advertising alliances are not Living Bodhisattvas, what do they eat without deducting their quota? Advertising alliances make big money from webmasters, and webmasters make small money from advertising alliances. This is an iron law that will never change.
If your website is going to be a long-term business, and it is your only source of income, and you want to survive through advertising alliances, take care of yourself. However, even so, webmasters are still crazy about hanging ads from various advertising alliances on their websites. There are often such examples around me. A friend of mine spent 3,000 to 4,000 yuan on his website in the early stage from developing it to purchasing the host. As a result, he only got 2,000 to 3,000 IPs per day, and the advertising alliance income was 500 to 600 yuan a month. After half a year, I haven’t made a penny from the website, and the initial cost of the website has not been recovered yet. You cried and asked me what to do. I said you should quickly remove all the ads from the advertising alliances on the website. You can’t get more from those alliances than a hotel waiter. Tomorrow, replace it with ads on your Taobao store, selling products related to the content of your website, and maybe you can still make some money.
I just can’t understand why individual webmasters can’t explore more ways to make money, so they are so superstitious about advertising alliances? Even if they are Baidu Alliance and Google Ads, don’t place your hopes on them. The core profit model and channels must be mastered. In your own hands. For example, I built a website in 2009 and only had less than 100 IPs a day. I guess I couldn’t even earn back the domain name money through the advertising alliance. I made tens of thousands selling products and services in half a year. Believe it or not.
And those young webmasters, if you really make some money through advertising alliances, don’t spend it randomly, save it for future use. There are too many unexpected things on the Internet. What happened in December 2009 is enough to explain everything. A personal website will never be stable. Maybe today you are still counting the income from the advertising alliance, but tomorrow your website will no longer be open.
The third biggest success: website ranking
How much is the so-called website ranking worth? How valuable is the world ranking? How authoritative is the Chinese website ranking? Hey, if we talked about this kind of ranking 2006 years ago, maybe many people would still be interested and pay attention to it. Now that you say that your website has been ranked within 1,000, I guess not many people believe it even if it is true. What do you look for on a website now? Look at the theme, traffic quality, and profit model. A website ranked 1,000 earns 10,000, and a website ranked 10,000 earns 100,000. Any fool knows which one is worth more.
Why do individual webmasters like various website rankings? Because since childhood, we have seen that everything in China has a ranking, especially in school. The mid-term exam has a ranking, and the final exam will give you a ranking. A high ranking means you have done well in the exam... Now that I am out of school and making a website, when I heard that the website has a ranking, I can't help but start building a website based on this ranking.
Now go to A5 and look at the posts about selling websites. Most of them will talk about real things such as the number of visits, traffic quality and profit model. It is rare to see anyone talking about their ranking. In 2007, I met some individual webmasters who had hundreds of IP visits a day and had to brush up their rankings to attract ads. I said: The number of visits to your website is too small, even if you pull ads, it will have no effect. Advertisers will feel cheated and it will affect the image of your website. In the end, those few said: Our website doesn’t want an image, we have to improve the ranking, and we can make some money by advertising.
No wonder individual webmasters have to rely more and more on advertising alliances, because advertisers are afraid that the traffic will be unreal and ineffective, and they are afraid that the webmaster will run away after giving money first. I don’t know how many webmasters have been poisoned by believing in the world rankings too much. Those who still read the rankings every day should go to bed quickly. Tomorrow, I will increase the content of the website and modify the unreasonable parts to give visitors a better experience. It is much better than ranking. No matter how much grass a donkey eats, it is still a donkey and will never turn into a horse. If you want to become a horse, you still have to run hard every day. It is definitely useless for an optical horse to eat grass.
The fourth most popular one: Dedicated server
Most personal webmasters still use virtual hosts. It is said that owning an independent server is the dream of most webmasters. Are all Chinese webmasters crazy? When they see an independent server, their eyes turn red, regardless of the actual situation of their website. , as long as it can be accessed on a dedicated server.
I used to have a friend who built a website, which only received a few thousand IP visits a day. A better virtual host could fully bear it. Including the monthly hosting cost of 200 yuan, the website's monthly income saves a lot regardless of the hosting cost. But he had to buy a second-hand server, and he was not very skilled at it. He didn't even know how to set up a server. Whenever something went wrong, he would sweat all over his head. Hey, the monthly hosting fee is quite a lot, but people think that using a dedicated server is more advanced.
Not to mention using a second-hand server, even using a few original IBM servers, I didn't see anyone kowtow to anyone. It has no other effect except making myself look stupider than others. I have several websites, but I don’t buy servers. Why? The virtual hosts are all ready-made. If I want to change the computer room when it expires, I can change it. I don’t have to worry about the server being broken, lost or touched during transportation. Besides, running a website is enough to worry about. You can’t always rely on computer room technology when using a dedicated server. Most of the time, you have to learn something by yourself. Isn’t this looking for trouble for yourself? It’s already good to be able to build a good website.
The large IDC company's virtual hosting service is very good, and it only costs 3,000 to 4,000 yuan a year. If you want to buy a server, the hosting fee for a better computer room will be 7,000 to 8,000 yuan. More importantly, the website has not yet reached the level of using a dedicated server. Using a virtual host for one website and one computer room will not annihilate the whole army. If all websites are put into the same server, what should I do if there is a problem in the computer room? Isn't this stupid?
Some people say that independent servers are safe, but you can be easily implicated if you use a virtual host. I thought to myself: I am not safe. Do you think you are safe? The computer room is the same. Not only will your website fail, but you will not be able to get the server back. Let me tell you, the domestic Internet rectification has just begun. If you maintain a separate server, your website will earn the same income as the website in the virtual host, and you may even lose a server in the end. Of course, a dedicated server is definitely better than a virtual host, but a good one may not be suitable for you. The best one is what suits you.
Finally, I would like to say that individual webmasters are not stupid, but the life of the website and the website making money should be taken lightly. Understand our "Chinese characteristics", find more ways for yourself to make money, be more pragmatic away from illusions, calculate more about the relationship between costs and benefits, and see how other websites live. In 2008, I wrote an article "Personal webmasters should not bet their youth and ideals on the Internet" which caused controversy in A5. I suggested that after this Internet catastrophe, everyone should read it from beginning to end. If you decide to continue working on the Internet, don't be fooled again, and don't have unrealistic illusions. If you decide to change careers, go to bed early and go out to find a job or do other small businesses tomorrow. Don't mess around on the Internet. After a year, the website will not develop and other things will be delayed.
