According to foreign media reports, there is a problem with the activation key of the Windows 7 Professional Student Edition (a discounted Windows 7 Professional Edition for college students in some countries) sold by Digital River, an American online software sales company.
It is reported that when users clean install Windows 7 Professional Edition, the system will prompt users to enter the product key. However, after the user enters the original key, the system prompts that the entered key is invalid.
Win7 Professional Student Edition will see the following error message:
Code: 0xC004F061
The specific description is: The Software Licensing Service has determined that this product key can only be used for upgrades and cannot be used for clean installations.
Microsoft's official technical support forum has announced relevant solutions:
Install the system without entering the product key. After the installation is complete, click [Start] [Run] and enter REGEDIT.
In the registry, select:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
Double-click "MediaBootInstall" on the right (media boot installation) and change the value "1" to "0". Close the registry.
Select [Start] [All Programs] [Accessories], enter the command prompt window, and select [Run as Manager]
Enter the following command line: slmgr /rearm. Click the Enter key. Wait for the "Command was executed successfully" dialog box to appear.
Close the command line window and restart the computer——
Right-click [My Computer] and select [Properties]. Select Change product key and enter the original key. The system will be activated
