THE FINALS is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter created by former developers of the Battlefield series. After launching last year, it has achieved considerable success, with as many as two million people online at one time. Publisher Nexon sees it as a major series mainstay. But in the latest financial report, Nexon revealed that the performance of "The Final" did not meet expectations, and they are working hard to find out why.
Nexon stated in its financial report that the launch of the second season of "The Final" in March resulted in a short-term increase in the number of players, but the player retention rate and revenue were lower than expected. Developer Embark is working with Nexon's real-time service team to understand situation and resolve key issues.
In addition, Nexon also admitted that the good performance of other games in its portfolio was partially offset by the loss of "The Final". Ultimately, The Final fell short of expectations, meaning the publisher reported earnings that were lower than original targets.
