The editor of Downcodes learned that Google Lens has received a major AI-driven upgrade in the desktop version of Chrome browser, and its convenience is comparable to the desktop version of Circle to Search. This update not only brings new interaction methods, but also enhances the search function, significantly improving the user experience. Users can directly click the new button in the search box to activate Google Lens, select the content they need to search, and multiple search results containing text and images will pop up in the sidebar without leaving the current page or opening a new tab.
Google Lens in the desktop version of Chrome is getting an AI-powered upgrade, which may make it feel like the desktop version of Circle to Search.
As part of the Chrome update, Google is rolling out Convenient Actions. You can click the new button directly in the search box to activate Google Lens and easily select what you want to search for. And, a sidebar pops up in the tab you're viewing, allowing you to perform "multiple searches," which are searches that include both text and images found with Lens. This feature is useful because you don't have to leave the current page, do a separate Google search, or open a new tab.
According to a blog post by Chrome Vice President Parisa Tabriz, an update enabling this feature will be rolled out globally "in the coming days." However, be aware that Google’s strange AI overview sometimes appears in the search results in the sidebar, and this feature is currently only available to US users.
Not only that, Google has also added a new AI-driven feature to Chrome. It lets you ask questions about your search history , like "What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?" to help you find links you might want to check out again.
The tool, which will be available on desktop Chrome in the U.S. "in the coming weeks," is user-optional and currently relies on a cloud-based model to deliver results. In a briefing with reporters, Tabriz also talked about the possibility of having models run on devices in the future.
Highlight:
All in all, these AI upgrades to Google Lens and Chrome will greatly improve user search and information finding efficiency, and it is worth looking forward to more feature updates in the future. The editor of Downcodes will continue to pay attention and bring the latest reports.
