As competition in the field of AI writing assistants becomes increasingly fierce, Proton Mail, which focuses on privacy and security, has launched its AI writing assistant Proton Scribe to provide users with a safe and reliable email writing experience. Unlike other technology giants, the core of Proton Scribe's design is to protect user privacy, using zero-access encryption and an open source model, and allowing independent auditing to maximize user data security. This is undoubtedly an attractive option for users who are increasingly concerned about data privacy.
In the context of technology giants such as Google and Microsoft introducing AI functions into their email services, Proton Mail, known for its privacy and security, has also launched its own AI writing assistant-Proton Scribe. This new feature is designed to help users compose and optimize emails more efficiently while strictly protecting user privacy.
Proton Scribe is designed with privacy protection in mind. Because Proton Mail uses a zero-access encryption method, Scribe does not have access to users' inbox data for training, and Proton does not save or log anything from user email drafts. Users can choose to run Scribe on their local system, or on Proton’s log-free server. What’s more worth mentioning is that Scribe is based on open source models and code, allowing independent researchers to conduct privacy and security audits, which further enhances its transparency and credibility.
In terms of functionality, Proton Scribe provides a wealth of writing assistance tools. Users can easily access Scribe by simply clicking on the pencil icon in the Proton Mail editor. After you tell the tool what you want to say in your email, it creates a draft for you. Scribe also provides shortening and proofing options to help users compress and clean up their drafts. Additionally, users can adjust the tone of the email to make it more formal with one click. Users can review and modify AI-generated content at any time before sending it.
Currently, Scribe only fully supports English, and Proton is gradually rolling out this feature to eligible users. In terms of pricing strategy, Scribe is free for Visionary and Lifetime subscribers. For Proton Business plan users (including Mail Essentials, Mail Professional and Proton Business Suite), the company offers a 14-day free trial. After the trial period, each user will have to pay $3 per month to continue using the service.
Proton said the writing assistant was one of the most popular features in a recent user survey. By launching Scribe, Proton aims to provide users with a secure, privacy-focused alternative to AI writing tools to meet users’ needs for intelligent writing assistance, while adhering to the company’s consistent philosophy of privacy protection.
The launch of Proton Scribe not only provides users with efficient email writing assistance tools, but more importantly, it sets an example of privacy protection in the field of AI writing assistants and provides users with more safe and reliable choices. I believe that with the improvement of functions and expansion of language support, Proton Scribe will occupy a place in the market.
