Apple announced that it will integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT function into its Apple Intelligence, a move that will significantly enhance the smart assistant capabilities of iOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia systems. Users can experience more powerful smart services on iPhone, iPad and Apple Silicon-based Mac devices. ChatGPT will work together with Siri to handle more complex tasks and bring a more efficient user experience. This update focuses on user privacy and can be used without registering an OpenAI account. The system will hide the user's IP address to ensure session privacy.
Apple announced that its Apple Intelligence has integrated OpenAI’s ChatGPT function and supports its use in iOS18.2 and macOS Sequoia operating systems.
This means that users can experience more powerful smart assistant services on iPhone, iPad and Apple Silicon-based Mac. ChatGPT works with Siri to handle more complex tasks, providing users with a more efficient experience.
With this update, ChatGPT can work directly with Siri and Apple's text editing tools. When Siri determines that ChatGPT can better satisfy the user's request, it will automatically forward the request to OpenAI's system, provided that the user has enabled this feature. Users do not need to register an OpenAI account to use these new features. Even without an account, OpenAI will not save the user's request or use it to train AI. The system will also hide the user's IP address to ensure the privacy of the session.
However, recent demos didn't offer many surprises. Although OpenAI demonstrated the ability to generate playlists through ChatGPT, users still need to manually import these playlists into Spotify for actual playback. The demonstration on the Mac platform is also relatively basic, limited to showing how ChatGPT processes PDF files.
It is worth mentioning that the launch of Apple Intelligence’s ChatGPT integration feature was later than expected. It was originally planned to be launched last fall. However, due to slow development progress, many previously demonstrated features are not expected to be officially launched until 2025.
In addition to the integration of ChatGPT, Apple has also introduced a number of new AI features in iOS 18.2, including "Image Playgroud" for creative photo editing in messages, "Genmoji" for creating personalized emoticons, and "Image Wand" Writing tools that turn sketches into images and make text come alive with simple descriptions. These features are accessed via the camera control side button, while integration with Google Lens enables object recognition and GPT-4 to help parse complex graphs.
Apple plans to update Siri in the coming months and years to understand more personal context and support hundreds of new commands. Although relevant EU regulations limit the launch of these AI features in the European market, it is expected that these features will be available to European users by April 2025.
At the same time, OpenAI is constantly updating its products, launching new refinement methods and the final model Sora, but Sora is also not available in the EU due to regulatory reasons.
Highlights:
? ChatGPT has been integrated into Apple’s Apple Intelligence, improving the functionality of the smart assistant.
?Users can use new features without an OpenAI account to ensure privacy and security.
?️ Multiple new AI features will be launched in iOS18.2 and are expected to be fully updated in 2025.
All in all, Apple integrated ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence to improve the user experience, but the launch of some features has been delayed. In the future, with the continued efforts of Apple and OpenAI and the adjustment of relevant regulations, we look forward to seeing more and more powerful AI functions.
