Thailand is grappling with a growing problem of counterfeit goods, especially cheap and low-quality products sold on online platforms. In order to improve regulatory efficiency and protect consumer rights, Thailand’s Ministry of Industry plans to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) system to intelligently monitor and detect goods sold on online platforms. This measure aims to effectively crack down on illegal businesses and maintain a fair competitive market environment. Compared with manual detection, the AI system has higher efficiency and wider coverage, and can greatly improve supervision efficiency.
Thailand’s Ministry of Industry recently announced that it will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) systems to strengthen supervision of counterfeit and shoddy goods sold on online platforms. Pongpol Yodmuangcharoen, secretary of Industry Ministry Akanat Prompan, said on Wednesday that the ministry's Technology and Industrial Reform and Innovation Committee discussed the package at a meeting on December 20.
At its second meeting on December 20, the committee heard that a study showed that the Industry Ministry’s AI system could monitor and detect 100,000 substandard consumer goods sold through online platforms every day, while currently human officials can only detect 100,000 items per day. 1600 pieces. Pongpol explained that Akanat established the committee to address the problem of cheap and inferior products (mainly from China) flooding the Thai market.
The AI system will prioritize detecting items related to consumer safety, such as power extension cord sockets and crash helmets. The committee has decided to use AI to detect certain keywords and product images and compare them with product prototypes and the Ministry of Industry’s database of authorized dealers and ISO-certified products. Meanwhile, industry ministry staff will focus on verifying information and preparing legal action documents against sellers selling substandard goods.
The introduction of this AI supervision system marks an important step in Thailand's fight against counterfeit and shoddy goods. Compared with manual inspection, AI systems can identify substandard goods with higher efficiency and wider coverage, which will greatly improve supervision efficiency and effectively protect the rights and interests of consumers.
This system can not only identify substandard goods, but also help the Ministry of Industry track and crack down on unscrupulous merchants more effectively, thereby maintaining a level playing field in the Thai market. In the future, Thailand's Ministry of Industry may further expand the application scope of this AI system and bring more commodities into the scope of supervision, thereby providing consumers with a safer and more reliable consumption environment.
Through the application of AI technology, Thailand has shown a positive attitude in maintaining market order and consumer rights, which provides a reference for other countries in combating counterfeit and shoddy goods. I believe that with the continuous development and application of AI technology, there will be more and more effective measures to protect consumer rights and maintain fair competition in the market in the future.
