When many friends are building websites, sometimes when the website is launched, they find that the domain name is not suitable or is inconvenient for users to remember, and they need to change it to a new domain name. But if you really want to change a new domain name, everyone has concerns again, because many IPs come from search engines every day. Once you change the domain name, you will lose a lot of traffic, and even the previous accumulation will be wiped out overnight. No one dares to easily The toll of trying this conversion.
I have always wanted to try it myself. It just so happened that this time my blog was migrated to my own server. There would have been a lot of things that couldn't be transferred, so I simply started over and changed the previous domain name (www.gisblogs.net), which was not used by gisblogs before. net), converted to gisblogs.net, that is, the www is removed. Moreover, the directory structure of the entire website has been replaced with a brand new one. Everything before has been removed and started again. Only the data in the database is retained. In order to do this experiment, I recorded some data before my conversion, on May 16, 2009, my blog data.
The number of daily visits is about 150 IPs, and the PV is about 200. The search engine source ratio is generally google:baidu=5:3, website address: www.gisblogs.net, Baidu included number: 120, Google Number of entries: 333, PR value: 3. Website address: gisblogs.net (same as www.gisblogs.net, the included web pages are also of the above domain name, there is no page like http://gisblogs.net) Baidu included: 120, Google included: 333, PR value: 3
Change settings
www.gisblogs.net only has one home page and one 404 error page, both of which have links pointed to gisblogs.net, and no other settings are made. After the replacement, I checked almost every day to see if the search engine had been updated. Until today, May 24, 2009, I found that Google has updated gisblogs.net on a large scale. The statistics are as follows: gisblogs.net www.gisblogs.net, Baidu 66 65, Google 513 253, Yahoo 135 138. Traffic statistics: 44 IPs, the traffic becomes 114, there is a jump PV, so the PV/IP value becomes larger, the search engine source is google: baidu=29:2
Through these data, the analysis is as follows
1. The search engines have all updated my website, and some non-existent links have been reduced. Google has reduced 80 pages, and Baidu has reduced 55 pages. In terms of quantity, Google has more, and Baidu has a larger ratio of 50%.
2. When it comes to the inclusion of new domain names, Google moves quickly. Almost all new pages of giblogs.net are included, while Baidu still has no page of www.gisblogs.net that is gisblogs.net.
3. Yahoo has not changed much before and after, and it does not include new pages.
4. The traffic has dropped sharply, especially the traffic from Baidu.
Current summary
1. In general, Yahoo has always been a foil to the other two search engines. There is no new technology, and the number of users is inevitably less than that of Google and Baidu.
2. Google’s update speed is much faster than Baidu’s, and Google’s technical advantages are still very strong.
3. After Baidu converts the domain name of the website, it is very slow to re-include it. At the same time, it will have a large impact on the traffic of the website. The influence of Google is relatively weak, but it is still there.
Therefore, if your website traffic comes from Baidu through this experiment, please do not change the domain name easily, otherwise the impact on your website will be fatal. I will continue to conduct statistics and analysis on my blog, and will continue to share new results with you.
