2. Establish the first available FTP server
1. For example, if the IP address of this machine is "192.168.0.48", the relevant DNS record of the domain name "ftp.bbc.com" has been established.
2. Open Serv-U Manager. Select "Serv-U Administrator" in the picture above, and the "Setup Wizard" will appear. This wizard can help you get through the basic setup easily, as it is recommended. Just select "Next". As shown below:

⑺Create named account (Create another account?): Here you are asked whether to create a normal login user account; generally select "Yes".

4. As you can see from the picture above, an FTP server has been established. The server address is "ftp.bbb.com". There are two users under it, one is the anonymous user "Anonymous", and its password is empty; One is the ordinary user "nanshan", whose password is the content entered in the wizard.
5. Basic permissions. For example, if you select the "nanshan" user in the left panel, the settings window as shown below will appear in the right panel. Select "Dir Access" to set whether this user has "Read", "Write", and "Append" for files in its home directory (i.e. "Path"). Add), "Delete" (delete), "Execute" (execute); whether the directory has "List" (display a list of files and directories), "Create" (create a new directory) and "Remove" (modify the directory, including Delete, move, rename); and "Inherit" (whether the above permissions include the directory tree below it), etc.

1. Account option. As shown below:
2. Various descriptions and application examples

3. Group(s): If a group has been established, you can select more directories here by selecting the group. The attributes of the directories in these groups are determined when the group is created and cannot be modified by users in "Dir Access"! If the home directory of a group user is not within the directory tree contained in the root directory (see item 5 below), this group user cannot enter.
4. Password: This item is "<
5. Home directory: In principle, this is the home directory after the user logs in; the actual root directory where the user logs in will be determined by the "Lock user in home directory" in the "General" attribute.
⑴For example, the path here is "d:myweb" and the corresponding item in "General" is selected, then the main directory and the root directory are both "d:myweb".
⑵For another example, if the path here is "d:myweb" and the corresponding item in "General" is not selected, then the main directory is "d:myweb" and the root directory is "d:".
⑶Note: This can be modified according to the situation, but it cannot exceed the range of the disk where the "Path" in "Dir Access" is located, otherwise you will not see anything after logging in!
6. Notes: This item is used to mark some explanatory text.

Section 4 Serv-U user attribute "General" (commonly used)
1. “General” option. As shown below:
2. Various descriptions and application examples
1. Lock user in home directory: If selected, the user is only allowed to access files and directories below the "home directory" (the home directory is the root directory); if not selected, the user can always access Go to the actual root directory of the disk where the home directory is located (such as "d:") - of course, you may not have permission to read or write other file directories under it, but it is still recommended to generally select this option.
2. Hide 'hidden' files: Files with the attribute "hidden" are not displayed in the list.
3. Always allow login: This account is always valid.
4. Allow only N login(s) from same IP address (only accept N user logins from the same IP address): Very useful for limiting the number of machines connected to the external LAN!
5. Allow user to change password: Some FTP clients have the function of allowing users to change their FTP password, and this is prepared for them.
6. Max. upload speed: You can limit the maximum rate at which the client can upload files (in kb/s).
7. Max. download speed: the maximum speed of downloading files (in kb/s).
8. Idle time-ou (idle overflow time): If it does not work (read, write, etc.) for more than a certain minute, the generated connection will be discarded.
9. Max. no. of users: The maximum number of users allowed to connect to this server at the same time.
10. Logging message file: Here you can enter (or select) the full path and file name of a pre-created text file (generally), and relevant prompts will appear after successful login. The prompt information is as follows:
11. Password type: Generally choose the default “Regular Password”.
[Cut-Page]
Section 5 Serv-U user attribute "Dir Access" (directory access attribute)
1. "Dir Access" (directory access attribute) option. As shown below:
2. Various descriptions and application examples
1. Path (path): the actual path where the directory is located; Access (attribute): access attribute; Group (group): the group to which it belongs.
2. Files/Read (Read): The right to perform "read" operations (copying, downloading; excluding viewing) on files.
3. Files/Write (write): The right to "write" (upload) files.
4. Files/Append (Append): The power to perform "write" operations and "append" operations on files.
5. Files/Delete: The power to delete (upload, rename, delete, move) files.
6. Files/Execute: The power to directly run executable files.
7. Directories/List (List): View rights to files and directories.
8. Directories/Create: The power to create directories.
9. Directories/Remove (move): The power to move, delete and rename directories.
10. Inherit: If selected, the above selected attributes will take effect on the entire directory tree below the directory specified in the selected "Path"; otherwise, it will only take effect on the current directory.
11. For situations where there are multiple "Paths", sometimes the order is crucial. For example, the main directory is "d:myweb", and there is a directory with the path "d:mywebwin98" under it. Now I want the current user to only have viewing rights to "d:mywebwin98", but not to Other directories under the home directory have full control. need:
⑴ "Add" a "Path", select "d:myweb", select all permissions (especially include "Inherit"); then "Add" another "Path", select "d:mywebwin98" , the permission is to select "List" only.
⑵ If the main directory is in front and another directory is in the back, you will find that after logging in, you also have full control over the "win98" directory!
⑶But if you put the main directory last and another directory first, the result is exactly what you need.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the basic rule here is to put those with special attributes in the front and those with shared attributes in the back!
