I have been passionate about drawing since I was a child. In 2001, I began to draw hand-drawn inserts for magazines and create short comics. Self-taught photoshop and painter. In 2006, I purchased a digital tablet and started a systematic self-study journey. In 2007, he officially changed his name to "Xiao Yi" and started to draw illustrations for books, magazines and games. Currently working for a well-known domestic game company. The works are used as tutorials on major design websites (Blue Ideal, Vulcan, Illustration China, etc.) for painting enthusiasts to learn from.
What I bring to you this time is an original design draft of a game character. The finished effect is as follows:
1. The first step is to determine the specific proportions and initial posture of the character. My method is to first draw the silhouette of the character in black, and continue to adjust the outer outline with an eraser and a brush until the shape and structure are comfortable. Then use white combined with the pressure of the Youji pen to shape the internal structure. If you have doubts about your dictation ability during this process, it is best to find some pictures from books on the human body structure for reference.
2. After the preliminary preparation work is completed, it is time to start designing the clothing. In this step, we first roughly distinguish the distribution form of the armor. I first divided it into major parts such as helmet, shoulder armor, breastplate, gauntlets, and skirt. At this stage, it is enough to draw a rough relationship between light and dark.
3. After the general form is determined, the specific drawing will proceed. I positioned his armor as a relatively smooth metal type, so I used strong highlights and reflections to capture the feeling of metal. On this basis, I drew it based on the specific geometric shape of the armor. Use the eyedropper tool to absorb adjacent colors and use the pressure sensitivity of the pressure-sensitive pen to make transitions.
4. The relationship between sketches has been determined. Now it is time to separate the colors for the armor. In order to show the high level of the profession, I chose gold for decoration. At the collar, the edges of the shoulder armor and the waist are separated by gold. The advantage of this is that it allows people to clearly distinguish various parts. It should be noted here that it is also gold, but the color changes due to the influence of light and environment.
