Open a new document, set the background to black, and use the fill tool to fill the black background
Then use the pen tool to snap down the character and drag it into the black background
To adjust the character's image, use adjustment layers (Layer > Create New Adjustment Layer) to adjust Hue and Saturation and Color Balance as well as Levels to help create a darker, more subtle image. Leave all adjustment layers slightly Above the "character" layer.
Select the previous ink droplet to choose the best shape, change the background to white, press trl + I to invert the image, drag the image into the file, and change the blending mode to lighten.
Duplicate the ink droplets into several layers and change their size and direction, merge all the ink droplet layers, and change the layer transparency to 60% to make it look like a jet of flames.
