The new "library" introduced in Windows 7 is a very efficient way to organize system data. Its principle is to index files of the same type in different locations on the hard disk and save the file information into the library. To put it simply, the library only saves shortcuts to some files or folders, and does not change the original path of the file. This allows centralized management without changing the file storage location, which improves the efficiency of our work.
Compared with the original resource manager, the library can simplify file sharing, speed up file browsing and search, and improve file management. However, the library also has some shortcomings, such as the inability to back up the library configuration, the inability to set the library icon, etc. So, can the library function of Windows 7 be further optimized? Of course! Just use a tool software called Win7 Library Tool.
Network resources can also be stored in the database
Windows 7 cannot add unindexed folders to the library by default. Therefore, network folders cannot be added to the library. However, the inability of the library to organize network resources may bring inconvenience to the operation. At this time, the Win7 Library Tool can come into play. Let's do an operation of adding network resources to the "software" library.
Select the software library in the program window where the library is loaded, click the fifth button below to open the window for editing library properties, and click the "Include a folder" button in the pop-up editing library properties window to add a network folder (as shown in Figure 1). Return to the main interface and click the "Apply" button to apply. Then click the "Proceed" button in the pop-up window to add the network folder to the database.
Backup library settings with one click
If you reinstall the system or create a new user, you have to reset the library. Is there an easier way? Back up and restore the library through Win7 Library Tool.
First, click the third button below in the program window that loads the system library to save the library settings to a file (as shown in Figure 2). When needed, just load the backup file and restore the library settings through the software. Open the software window and click the second button below to select the saved library setting file. Return to the main interface and click the "Apply" button to return to the familiar library environment.
Library icons also need to be personalized
Windows 7 has multiple libraries by default such as music, videos, documents, pictures, etc. The icons of these libraries cannot be changed. If you want to customize them yourself, you can use the Win7 Library Tool to beautify the library icons.
After opening the program, you need to click the first button in the lower left corner to load the system library, then click the picture library, then click the fifth button below to change the properties of the library, and click the "Choose icon" button in the window that opens to edit library properties. The window to change icons will open. There are only four icons by default, but you can click the "C:system32mages.dll" link below to open the icon file and select it. In this way, the library icons can become rich and colorful (Figure 3 shown). After selecting, return to the main interface and you will see that the icon becomes beautiful.
