Hundreds of its authors jointly issued a statement asking search engines to block hotlinks
Yesterday, hundreds of authors under Shanda Literature (Weibo) issued a joint statement on the phenomenon of a large number of hot links in search engines. The statement called on search engines such as Baidu, 360, Sogou, and Soso to face up to their social responsibilities and protect the legitimate rights and interests of copyright holders. That night, Ning Jiuyun, vice president and spokesperson of Shanda Literature, said in an exclusive interview with this reporter: "We will definitely pursue the infringement and piracy and take active actions to safeguard rights."
112 authors vow to fight to the end against thieves
A total of 112 Shanda Literature original online literature authors participated in the anti-piracy statement, including online writers such as "I Eat Tomatoes" and "Tang Jia San Shao".
The statement has three contents, requiring several search engines to "block piracy and infringing websites", "establish a pre-audit mechanism for literature sharing channels" and "effectively fulfill the legal responsibility of notifying and deleting". The statement concluded with a vow: "As long as piracy is eradicated, our fight will continue."
Talking about demands, Ning Jiuyun gave three results that Shanda hopes to get. First, we hope that search engines can put genuine search results first, and those websites that have been engaged in piracy for a long time should be deleted from the search results; secondly, strengthen the so-called sharing website channels such as "Tieba" and "Wenku" that hide infringing and pirated content. Preliminary review; third, don’t let notifications issued by rights holders in accordance with the law go to waste every time.
The price of promotional space keeps increasing, and the genuine version is lost in money
Ning Jiuyun revealed that Shanda Literature once spent tens of millions of yuan to purchase promotional space on Baidu search. However, search engine companies continued to increase the price of promotional space, and Shanda Literature was overwhelmed. From 2009 to 2010, they negotiated with search engine companies, hoping to put genuine content links at the front instead of who pays more, but to no avail.
Ning Jiuyun said that going to court with search engines through legal weapons is the last option. Although Shanda Literature won the case against Baidu for infringement, the encouragement the authors received only lasted a short time. "Soon, the search engine returned to its old ways, leaving the authors helpless."
