Our school established FTP in 2003. After a period of exploration, the FTP service has become very mature in our school. It not only facilitates teachers and serves teaching, but also greatly promotes the daily management of the school. Now I will write down some experiences of our school for your reference.
Our principle in setting up the FTP service is to make it easy for teachers to use it, easy to manage, the system is stable, and there are as few problems as possible. We use Sever-U. How to set up an FTP server has been introduced in many articles in detail. The author mainly talks about how to make full use of the FTP service. If you simply open an account to facilitate teachers to temporarily store and transfer files on the local area network, you are still far from fully tapping its potential!
In order to make it more convenient to use, we have set up several major types of accounts such as public accounts, personal accounts, commonly used software accounts, and resource accounts.
Public account There is only one account in the public area. The user name is very simple "123" and the password is "123". It is mainly aimed at some old teachers. Simplicity and easy to remember are the most attractive to them. In the common area, teachers can temporarily put some things, and each department can also create its own folders. For example, at the end of the semester, if the Academic Affairs Office wants to collect teachers' teaching summaries, they can create a folder here called "Academic Affairs Office - Collect Teaching Summaries", which teachers will understand at a glance. Of course, there were a lot of problems here at the beginning. This is a free space that can be used by anyone. Some teachers often store movies and games on it, which will take up a lot of server space over time. On the one hand, we discussed this issue with teachers during online training, and on the other hand, we also came up with a way to limit this public space to 1000MB. After setting it up like this, if there are too many things stored, other things will not be stored. People who want to use this place temporarily will automatically clean up this place. Gradually, teachers will not put movies and other large things here. something.
Personal Account Each of the more than 200 faculty and staff members in the school has his or her own personal account with a space of 200MB. The username we set for each account is the pinyin of the teacher’s name, and the initial password is “123456”. If the password is the same, it is definitely not safe and should be customized. What to do? We have figured out a way for teachers to change the password themselves in the "command line window" of Windows. We mainly use the "quot site pswd "oldpassword" "newpassword"" command to change the password. Last year, we conducted a survey on the school forum, and the results showed that teachers are now very skilled in using their own personal accounts, and most of their papers, courseware and other personal data are placed on FTP servers. This eliminates the inconvenience caused to teachers when our school's large office changes computers every year. There is another prominent security issue with personal accounts - viruses! Because it is all teachers’ personal data and is uploaded through more than 60 office computers in the school and teachers’ home computers, it is inevitable that there will be various viruses and Trojans. We configure the anti-virus software of the FTP server to automatically remove viruses at 1:00 every morning. The server has been running for more than 2 years, and the overall operation is stable. There has been no data loss or system paralysis due to viruses.
Common software account For the convenience of teachers, we have specially set up a common software account. The user name is "soft" and the password is "soft". Classify some commonly used software into different folders. After entering with this username and password, the files inside are read-only, which is convenient to use and manage. In addition, the software in this account is constantly changing. We have even created a username "softw" and have our own password to modify the content in "soft". In fact, the user names "soft" and "softw" operate a folder, but after entering with "soft", it is read-only, and "softw" can be rewritten. Doing so makes management very practical and convenient.
Resource Account The resource account is a very important place in our school. Teachers need to access it frequently. The username and password are both "zy". Many folders have been created under this account, not only "Chinese", "Physics", "Chemistry", "English" and other subjects, but also "Exploration-Discovery", "Yu Shiwei Lecture", "Advanced Sexuality Education" ", "Information Center Training Tutorial", "Winning Works of the First Courseware Competition", etc. In short, it is to put all the public information of the whole school in this account as much as possible. Through this account, not only can the school's teaching and management-related materials be collected for easy reference by teachers, but more importantly, as the content of this account continues to be enriched, the resources have been well collected and organized. Over time, It is a great asset to the school. So how do various teaching and research groups and departments manage their own content? Management methods are similar to "soft" and "softw" accounts. Take physics in the resource account as an example: We have created another "zywl" account and manage the "physics" folder in "zy" through "zywl". Of course, the password for "zywl" is known only to the head of the physics teaching and research team. This not only enables ordinary teachers to have read-only access through the user name "zy" and password "zy", but also enables simple and convenient management of physical folders.
The above are the specific application and management methods of our school on FTP. In terms of application, FTP is not necessarily the best, but it is very practical and in line with the actual situation of our school.
