In this tutorial we use Photoshop to create two contrast adjustment layers. One is used to increase the contrast of the image, and the other is used to reduce the contrast.
Original picture:
Open the original image, copy the layer, and create a mask layer:
Select the mask and do Image > Apply Image:
Duplicate layer 1, select the duplicated mask, and press Ctrl+I to invert:
Set the layer 1 mode to Overlay, and the layer 1 copy mode to Screen (high contrast effect); if you set the Layer 1 mode to Screen, the layer 1 copy mode is Overlay (low contrast effect):
Flatten these two adjustment layers and adjust the opacity:
