Although you may already know all aspects of Photoshop, there are some practical skills you must master to realize its full potential. Today we introduce how to adapt to our software usage preferences through various settings of Photoshop, such as preferences, customization, and various miscellaneous items.
Photoshop Preferences Settings
1. In "Edit>Preferences>File Handling [Ctrl+K, Ctrl+2]", you can set the number of recently opened files displayed in the "File>Recently Opened Files" submenu. Photoshop will secretly keep track of the last 30 files, but it won't care about the numbers you specify: it will only display the few entries you specify. In fact, you can increase the number of recent files displayed so you can view them quickly.
2. Photoshop requires a scratch disk that is at least three to five times the size of the largest image you intend to process—no matter how much memory you have.
For example, if you plan to process a 5MB image, you will need at least 15MB to 25MB of available hard drive space and memory size.
3. If you do not allocate enough temporary disk space, Photoshop performance will be affected. The amount of memory used by Photoshop is limited by the available scratch disk space. So, if you have 1GB of memory and instruct Photoshop to use 75% of it, but only 200MB can be used as a scratch disk for design time, then in most cases Photoshop will use 200MB.
Note: To get the best performance from Photoshop, set the maximum amount of your physical memory usage between 50% and 75%. [Ctrl+K, Ctrl+8] (Edit>Preferences>Memory & Image Cache).
You should not set up Photoshop's scratch disk [Ctrl+K, Ctrl+7] (Edit>Preferences>Plug-ins & Scratch Disks) on the same partition as your operating system, because doing so will make Photoshop separate from your The operating system is competing for available resources, which can lead to a decrease in overall performance.
4. Press the Ctrl and Alt keys while opening Photoshop so you can change Photoshop's scratch disk before it loads.
5. To restore all preferences to their default values, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift immediately after opening Photoshop or ImageReady. A dialog box will appear asking you to confirm that a reset is required.
6. Usually when you select a history record and then make changes to the image, all records in the active record will be deleted, or more accurately, replaced by the current record. However, if you enable the "Allow non-linear history" option in the History float, you can select a record, make changes to the image, and the changes will be appended to the History float. bottom of the panel instead of replacing all active records. You can even delete a record without losing any records beneath it.
Note: The color of the horizontal lines between history records indicates their linear relationship. Separation using white represents linear history, while black represents non-linear history.
Not only is a non-linear history very memory intensive, it is also very difficult to understand.
7. You can use the "Image Preview" option [Ctrl+K, Ctrl+2] in "Edit>Preferences>File Processing" to save the customized icon and preview the image of the Photoshop document:
"Always Save": Save a custom icon or image preview (in the Image Properties dialog box on the Photoshop Image tab) to your image.
NOTE: Enabling image preview will typically increase file size by approximately 2KB.
"Ask when saving": Allows you to trigger the "Thumbnails" option in the "Save As" dialog box.
Note: This option does not actually ask when saving; it simply makes the Thumbnail option available when you save the image.
"Never save": Disable image previews and custom icons. This option also disables the Thumbnails option in the Save As dialog box.
Tip: You can trigger the generation of image preview through the "Generate Thumbnails" option in the "Image" tab of the "Properties" dialog box of the image in Photoshop.
Photoshop custom settings
8. There is a way to delete plug-ins (.8be), filters (.8bf), file formats (.8bi), etc. that you don’t need, and that is to change their file names (or the folders containing them) Previously a tilde (~) was used. Photoshop will automatically ignore any files or folders starting with "~".
Example: To disable the "Watermark" plug-in, just change the folder name to "~Digimarc".
9. You can customize the "File > Jump to" and "File > Preview in selected browser" menus by creating shortcut keys in the "Helpers" folder for your favorite applications.
To add your favorite graphics application to Photoshop's "File>Jump to" submenu, just create a shortcut in the "Jump To Graphics Editor" directory.
To create your own HTML editor in ImageReady's "File > Jump To" submenu, you can create a shortcut to the application you need in the "Jump To HTML Editor" directory.
To add your favorite browser to your File > Preview In Selected Browser submenu, create a shortcut in the "Preview In" directory.
Note: To display the applications you set in the relevant menus, you need to restart Photoshop/ImageReady.
Suggestion about "Preview in selected browsers": To select a browser in the "File > Preview in selected browsers" submenu (or "Preview in selected browsers" button), you can change this The browser setting is the default [Ctrl+Alt+P]. This browser setting will take effect shortly and will persist the next time you launch ImageReady.
Note: Although you can add other imaging applications in the File > Jump To submenu, you cannot change their default imaging application. ImageReady's default "jump to" image application is Photoshop, and Photoshop's default "jump to" image application is ImageReady.
10. To make Windows (especially 95/NT) use a customized display matching curve, you only need to do the following:
(1) Delete "Adobe Gamma Loader" in "Startup" of the start menu.
(2) Determine the path/name of the ICM curve (basically located in C:WinNTSystem32Color).
(3) Run RegEdit and find the following items:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Adobe>Color>Monitor>Monitor0
(4) Create a new item called "Monitor Profile"
(5) Enter the path/name in step 2 into the item of this display curve.
Note: After setting this curve, do not run it again as Adobe Gamma has reconfigured the Adobe Gamma Loader.
Miscellaneous Photoshop settings
11. To free up your memory, you can choose "Edit>Clean>History", but doing so will clear the history of all open documents.
Note: If you only need to clear the history of the active document, press the Alt key and select "Clear History" in the history floating panel menu. This will clear all history without changing the image.
Warning! The above command cannot be revoked!
12. To calculate the size of an image file, you can use the following equation:
File size = resolution squared x width x height x color depth/8192 (bit/KB)
If it is a 24-bit image, for example, when the screen resolution is 72dpi, use: file size = width x height x3/1024
Tip: Use 1024 to subtract (KB/MB) to determine the file size in MB.
13. To ensure that the histogram level dialog box is accurate, turn off the "Use cache statistics" check box in "Edit>Preferences>Memory and Image Cache" [Ctrl+K, Ctrl+8].
14. To create a web-safe color, ensure that the R, G, and B elements of the color are all multiples of 33 hexadecimal or 51 decimal. Any of the following values are acceptable: 00 (0), 33 (51), 66 (102), 99 (153), CC (204), FF (255).
15. Since the compression algorithm is available for the 8-pixel squares of JPEG and PNG, if the image file can be cut by 8, its size can be reduced.
