Let’s take a look at the effect first:
In this example we will crop the material to highlight the important parts. Then, by adjusting the color and details of the picture, a work with a strong digital feel is created. Create a new file of 1200×900 pixels size. Select the Gradient Tool, set a purple (f94fc3) to black gradient, and fill the background.
Open a character material and drag it into the file. Press the "Ctrl+T" keys to open the Free Transform command and adjust the size and position as shown.
Click "Add Layer Mask" to add a mask to layer 1. Set the foreground color to black, select the brush tool, and paint on the mask to hide the hair in the material.
Create a new layer 2 and use a black soft-edged brush to paint on the forehead of the character to reduce the brightness of the forehead.
Select layer 2 and press "Ctrl+Alt+G" to create a clipping mask. Click "Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer" and select "Channel Mixer" in the menu, as shown in the settings dialog box.
Select the Channel Mixer 1 layer and press "Ctrl+Alt+G" to create a clipping mask.
Click "Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer" and select "Gradient Map" in the menu, as shown in the settings dialog box.
Select the Gradient Map 1 layer and press "Ctrl+Alt+G" to create a clipping mask.
Create a new layer 3, select a 150 pixel soft-edged brush, and click on the location shown. And set the layer 3 blending mode to "Overlay".
Create a selection at the pupil as shown. Press "Ctrl+Alt+D" to open the Feather command and set the Feather value to 5.
Click "Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer" and select "Hue/Saturation" in the menu, as shown in the settings dialog box.
Select the Hue/Saturation 1 layer, click the "Add Layer Style" button, and select the "Inner Glow" command in the menu, as shown in the figure to set the parameters.
Create a new 1×3 pixel document, set its aspect ratio to 1600%, set the foreground color to black, and click on the top using a 1 pixel pencil. And execute the "Edit" → "Define Pattern" command.
Click "Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer" and select "Pattern" in the menu, as shown in the settings dialog box. Set the Pattern Fill 1 layer's blending mode to "Overlay" and its opacity to 50%.
Select the Pattern Fill 1 layer and use a black brush to paint around the eyes to hide the horizontal lines around them.
Create a new layer 4, draw a selection as shown, and fill it with white.
Then draw a selection as shown in the figure on layer 4 and delete part of the selection.
Select the rectangular marquee tool, draw a selection as shown, and delete the color in the selection.
Create a new layer 5 and draw the pattern as shown in the same drawing method as the pattern in layer 4.
Create a new layer 6 and draw the pattern as shown in the same drawing method as the pattern in layer 4.
Merge layers 4 to 6 into layer 4 and set the opacity to 20%. And create a layer mask, use a black brush to paint on the mask.
Create a new layer 5, use the pencil tool to draw some short lines and cross shapes, and set the opacity to 30%.
Select the Ellipse Tool and draw the path as shown, then select the Text Tool and enter text on the path. Set the opacity to 50%.
