Everyone's purpose of writing is different. Some are to back up the track of life, some are for money, and some are to gain a sense of accomplishment from the large traffic. In 2007, I chose to work at Internet Star because of the words of my supervisor at the time: "Tens of millions of people are accessing your work every day. How does that feel?"
From the beginning of blogging to today, from scratch to having a certain size of readership, I feel that the success of blogging can be summarized in two parts: "attracting readers" and "retaining readers". Broken down in detail, it probably involves the following contents:
Own content construction
1. Get a good domain name
Try to apply for the .com suffix, which is widely recognized by people. Or if you can get a top-level domain name like fuck.you, don’t miss it. The easier it is to remember, the greater the chance that your blog will be remembered. I didn't realize this at the time. When uiCSS.cn matured and I was too lazy to change it, I was often asked, "What's your domain name?"
2. High-quality content is the foundation of an excellent blog.
First of all, there is no denying that websites that rely solely on reposting can also get a lot of traffic. I have done many so-called "garbage sites" myself before, grabbing content created by others in batches and making profits. But for a blog that wants long-term and stable development, content is the key, and it is the foundation of an excellent blog. We can reprint a certain number of articles, but we must have our own unique content that other websites do not have.
3. Avoid a hodgepodge
This is a casual platform, and everyone who writes a blog has all kinds of weird hobbies. Some people write about photography skills one day, post recipes and movie reviews tomorrow, and turn to traditional Chinese medicine to treat hemorrhoids the day after tomorrow. Users who subscribe to this blog will be very confused. They originally came here to learn photography skills, but as a result, a lot of content that is not their favorite is synchronized every day, so they can only unsubscribe. Don’t try to attract people from all walks of life to you. It’s good to have other hobbies. Just open a few more blogs and keep each blog consistent.
4. Keep updating
Before promoting, you must be clear about the angle you are writing from and whether you can stick to it continuously. Try to ensure that the blog always has new and useful articles. Especially for a brand-new blog, keeping it updated can make viewers think that "they can find valuable things next time they come back." If they go back and forth a few times, they will naturally subscribe.
5. Pay attention to frequency
I once subscribed to a chatty blogger. He has exceeded the limit of article updates, and even has new ideas emerging every hour. Please, can you combine the same 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in the sequel into one article? MSN pops up every hour to remind you that "subscription has been updated". It is also very painful. Unsubscribe, unsubscribe quickly.
Publicity, promotion, interaction
1. Find like-minded blogs and leave comments
Once you have a number of articles that attract readers, you can start looking around for similar sites. Choose some blogs with similar topics to your own, and post some meaningful article comments to attract the blogger himself or the readers of his blog. When leaving comments, try to choose a WordPress blog that does not close commenter links, rather than placing links in the comment content.
2. Actively reply to netizens’ comments on articles
Enable a plug-in like WordPress Thread Comment that automatically sends emails to commenters. Whenever you reply to a netizen's comment, the system will automatically send an email to notify you. This will increase the reader’s return rate and allow quality communication to continue.
3. Make some export links
If there are articles from other well-known blogs that touch on the content you are writing, you might as well provide a link. Blogs with citation notices will automatically link back using Trackbacks after you give the link. Even if the other author does not turn on this function and cannot attract the attention of his readers, it will at least attract his own attention. If he subscribes to your blog and gives you a link to a certain article, it will be quite valuable.
4. Forum communication
The blogging community is a good place to expand your relationship circle. If you have the ability to provide technical support, you might as well add your blog's address in the signature area. Don't blindly reply just for the sake of replying, and publish some valuable content. Learn and share while interacting.
5. Exchange links
Although it takes a long time to apply for a valuable link, it is better than spending the same amount of time to get a low-quality link. Weight is not everything. What matters is the quality of the other party's blog and the number of links.
How to increase external links
1. Write a set of free templates or convenient tools for people to use
2. Publish some industry news first
3. Organize/participate/sponsor some activities
4. Give away something of value for free
5. Interview famous people in your field
6. Collect and publish some resources that everyone is interested in
When you reprint an article, think about why you want to reprint it, what is better about it, and whether you can do it yourself. Pay attention to the various websites you visit every day and what titles catch your attention. How others hold events and why you would or would not want to attend the event. How do they promote it?
By learning from top bloggers and standing on their shoulders, we can see further.
