First of all, why use indexed color pictures? When designing PC interfaces, almost all true colors are used, which are not limited by color. PNG can be directly generated; or BMP can be added with a transparent color, which can be directly revealed by engineers. However, the scope of our design is very broad. We not only design on PCs, but also on many restricted electronic products, such as mobile phones, digital photo frames, TV boxes, etc. The core performance of this type of product is not as good as that of our PCs (of course, I am not talking about all of them, some are still very high-end). In this similar situation, we need to sacrifice some gorgeous true color pictures, Instead, use indexed color images that are small and easy to change in color wheels.
So what is an index color picture, and how do you buy an index color picture? Index, as the name suggests, means that there is something pointing to it, and this thing is the color table. Speaking of color tables, let's learn more basic knowledge. As we all know, picture formats are divided into two types of storage methods, one is dot matrix storage. When the computer stores this type of picture, each point is stored. position and corresponding color value. Picture formats such as BMP, Png24, Tiff, etc. all use this type of picture. The characteristics of this type of picture are that the colors can be expressed very richly, the color sense is good, and the picture takes up a large space (png24 uses lossless compression technology, which is relatively small. Many); the other type is that the image file contains a color table. When the computer stores the color of each dot matrix in the image, it stores the coordinates of the dot matrix and the corresponding position in the color table. Gif, Png8, etc. use this kind of picture. The characteristic of this kind of picture is that the picture takes up little space and the color wheel can be directly changed to change the color style of the picture. The disadvantage is that it is limited by the color wheel and uses fewer colors, unlike true color. The colors are expressed so richly. What we call indexed color pictures are actually the second type of pictures.
How to create indexed color images. To make a good index color picture, we must first design a good set of color disks. This set of color disks has unified specifications and color rules so that we can replace them at any time. (When we first start making this type of pictures, we should develop a good habit and be prepared for the expansion of the pictures, so the color palette we set must be regular and not chaotic.)
Let’s take a look at a set of already made color palettes.
This is a set of 4-bit color palettes, each with a total of 16 colors. The color in the first grid is reserved for transparent colors, so there are only 15 available colors. Since the design patterns of each electronic product are different, for some, multiple color palettes cannot be used at the same time in the same interface. When we design color palettes for this type of needs, remember to leave out the font color. , so I habitually leave transitional colors of black, white, and gray on each color palette. The color wheel production model is very simple, but sometimes the needs are different, and the model and rules are difficult to determine. This requires thinking more carefully at the beginning, because later modification of the color wheel model will be very painful. things. The steps are as follows:
1. Create a new PS blank file at will;
2. Image menu---->Mode---->Index Color, open the following panel
