This tutorial explains how to age a character. Before processing, you need to first understand some physiological changes of some characters as they age, such as those parts of the face that will deform. Knowing this is not enough, you need to find some roughly similar photos of the elderly to use for synthesis.
Original picture
final effect
1. Choose a suitable picture. When I choose to create an aging effect for a celebrity picture, I will try to choose an unmodified picture because such an original picture will retain more facial details, so that you can use it during the operation. In the process, the facial aging sequence will be correctly selected and the visual effect after PS will be increased, so that the subsequent aging process will be easier accordingly.
2. The process of collecting information is a very important step. First remember Katie’s appearance and then collect photos of elderly people with similar expressions to her online. It may not be easy to find photos of relatives of celebrities who want to age, but This will also help us a lot in the production process. I try to find pictures of Katie's mom online wherever I can. This gives me a lot of useful information, such as what I decide to look like when Katie gets older. Add a double chin to her.
3. Now let’s start to appreciate the magic of photoshop, Wahaha~~~
As we all know, the hair of the elderly will become sparse and the color will become grayer and lighter, so we use the [Clone Stamp Tool] here to select the skin around the eyes as the copy source, and select a smaller size according to the resolution of the image. brush and apply it on eyebrows and eyelashes.
4. Adjust the face
Next, I will use the [Liquify Tool] to create a basic collapse of the face (the scary collapse is coming~~)
The main parts where the liquefaction tool is used are the cheeks & jawbones & mandibles. Please try to trim them carefully, otherwise it will become scary, ha~
[About nose modification] As people age, bones stop growing and cartilage continues to change.
We use the [Forward Transform Tool] to slightly lengthen the length of the nose, and then use the [Inflation] tool to slightly enlarge the tip of the nose. Don’t go too far, otherwise it won’t look like our star.
5. Add a double chin
I discovered this detail from the photo of Katie’s mother**, so we have to add a double chin to the elderly Katie.
Method: Choose a brush of appropriate size, select the brush color on the character's neck, and then draw the line of the double chin on Katie's neck as naturally as possible. In addition, you need to remember that you must always use the old man we found before photos as reference images for retouching.
6. Increase wrinkles around the eyes
The author believes that the modification around the eyes is the most critical link, and its quality determines the success or failure of this work.
Please carefully observe the wrinkles around Katie's eyes, refer to the photos of the old people you found before, imagine the direction and depth difference where the wrinkles should form, and then use the [Stamp Tool] and [Brush Tool] combined to increase their [Length] and [Depth], there are some technical requirements here, and the wrinkles can also be extended to the forehead and cheeks, and wrinkles can also be added appropriately around the mouth.
7. Reduce the lip area
As people age, their lips will shrink. I added some vertical wrinkles to Katie's lips, but nothing too deep.
8. Add more wrinkles and increase the sense of age
Create a new layer, where we use [Brush] to sketch the wrinkles, so that in the end we can more easily select which wrinkles can be retained and delete those imperfect wrinkles.
9. Repair the wrinkles added in the previous step
In the previous step, I chose to add wrinkles where wrinkles are most needed. Use the [Brush] tool to increase the depth of the edges of the wrinkles added in the previous step, and select a light skin tone as the color of the brush.
10. Increase the hair on the lips
Use a brush large enough to draw details, lightly outline the hair on the lips, and add more at the corners of the mouth, but the color should not be too heavy. We don't need to focus everyone's attention on the character's lips.
