First I thought I should decide on the colors first, so I started with the color palette. I did a series of research and chose the colors shown below to use throughout the painting.
In the second step I will create some objects that form the image, I want to repeat the symbol over and over to form a circle, for example like a flower shape made out of a baby. Each object will take on 3 gradient colors: purple, yellow, blue. I'll give them colors based on their position in the image.
Now I'm going to make the base part that makes up the image so that I can duplicate it again to cover the entire frame, like in the image below. It's a crazy process, rotating, scaling, moving, and a lot of fun to make.
Keep repeating these elements, and while I said it's a very fun process, it does take a little time and effort.
With the flower pattern complete, I'll start making selections based on the strokes pictured below to build up the shading. I create a new layer and this time I paint the shadows on the black and white sketch. First I define a point as the source of light to let people know how the shadow is formed. Based on the above information I created a logical shadow. The picture below can be used as a reference.
