Introduction to the work: This article introduces the detailed steps for creating bronze text in Photoshop. It is relatively simple and suitable for beginners to learn. This is a great and simple text effect that is relatively simple to create. We'll be using the Bevel and Emboss layer effect, layer overlays, and combining a lot of different techniques to make the text and background blend seamlessly. Members of the PLUS website can also use this design style into your works.
first step
Copper is a wonderful metal. It is tough but highly malleable. Additionally, copper-colored textures are a great choice when you’re designing 90s-style or old-school graphics or web pages. Then the following method can help you add this unique effect to your text or graphics simply and effectively.
First, create a 1024×768 pixel file with a black background. Then think about where you want to place the text on the image. I found this pattern from a piece of ruins, and after adjusting the hue/saturation (ctrl+U, translator’s note: Command+U on Apple, the original text is based on Mac, the translation is based on PC, I won’t go into details hereafter) ,) and color levels (ctrl+L), the background is processed.
Step 2
Because copper looks green after a long time (just like the Statue of Liberty in New York, USA). So we need to add some green details in these places, create a new layer, set the foreground color to (#1A3404, color code), and then use a medium-sized soft brush to paint some spots, next, "Green Spots ” layer blending mode to Color Dodge.
Step 3
Press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Ctrl+Alt+D to feather 50 pixels.
Step 4
Create a new layer "Frame" and fill the selection with black (#000000). Then go to Filter>Distort>Wave and set the maximum wave length to 370.
Step 5
Create a new layer, name it "Light" and fill it with a symmetrical gradient from white to black (#FFFFFF to #000000). Then select Image>Adjustments>Curves (Ctrl+M) and adjust the curve as shown below. Finally, change the "Light" layer's blending mode to Overlay. Place this layer on top in the Layers panel.
Step 6
Now comes the fun! Write your text. I used the Rockwell font, but you can use other fonts.
Step 7
Now let's take a look at these very creative layer styles. It's a good idea to start by adding a gradient overlay to match the scene's lighting. In this case, we add 5 color gradients (#000000, #160700, #783501, #421F01, #050505) with an angle of 140 degrees. In addition, use 5 colors to add a 4 pixel thick stroke gradient effect (#803C17, #A44F30, #52230F, #52230F, #381408) angle is -95 degrees.
Step 8
Now it's time to add shadows. First the inner shadow, then the drop shadow. Pay special attention to their blending modes. Both must select Multiply mode.
Step 9
Next select the Color Overlay effect (#742901) and change the blending mode to Linear Dodge. Then select the gloss effect (opacity 16%).
