1. Advantages and prospects of local stations
Regarding grassroots entrepreneurship on the Internet, I have always been most optimistic about two directions, one is the industry website, and the other is the local website. There are three main reasons why we are optimistic about local stations:
First, there are many opportunities for local stations. There are more than 2,000 cities above the county level in China, and most of them do not have an established local station. In other words, at the local station, there are at least nearly 2,000 ownerless cakes waiting for everyone to pick them up. So how big are these cakes? Just look at the local stations that have been successful! Among the local stations that have been successful, no matter how big the city is, their annual income is at least several million.
Second, competition among local stations is small. Because the circle of local users is relatively fixed and their loyalty is relatively high. And once everyone recognizes a place and plays there, it will be difficult to be pulled away. So once a local station reaches scale, its competition is very small. At this time, even if someone spends money to compete, they may not win.
Third, the investment in local stations is small. The minimum investment is to buy a domain name and a space, and then use your spare time to do it.
Fourth, the success rate is high. If a city does not have a formal local station, the probability of success will be very high. Basically, as long as you have the right direction, the right method, and perseverance, you will succeed. For example, Jiang Likun participated in the operation and management of a local forum a few years ago. This website has no webmaster, no professional people to manage it, and it doesn’t even have its own domain name. But after almost 6 years of development and accumulation, there are now thousands of posts and tens of thousands of registered members every day. Don’t think that this data is very small, because our hometown is a county-level city. The total population of the urban area, towns, and valleys is only about 600,000. As we all know, the overall Internet level in Northeast China is relatively backward. So this data is already very beautiful. So which aspect is better for local stations to start from? The answer is the community. The community is the best place to start. There are two main reasons:
1. The crowd of local sites is fixed, and local users are very particular about circle relationships. Therefore, it is easiest to trap users by building a large circle through the community. And once you tightly circle users, others who want to compete with you will have no chance.
2. For other types of sites, whether they are information or information sites, they are easy to be copied, and the user stickiness of these sites is relatively low. 3. Two important strategies for local stations
There must be some skills in running a local station, and there are many. Here are the two most important strategies.
1. Star strategy
One of the things in human nature is that they like to associate with powerful people. Everyone wants to get to know people of a higher level than themselves. Therefore, when building a local website, especially a local community, you must pay attention to accumulating star members, especially core members and members. The higher their level, the better. This will make it easier to attract visitors and gain recognition from local users. You may think it's vulgar to say this, but there's nothing you can do about it, it's the reality. For example, if an ordinary middle school student is asked to create a local forum, it is basically impossible to do it, because the status and identity of a middle school student cannot attract people.
Like the example of the local forum mentioned by Jiang Likun earlier, on the surface, it is impossible to establish this forum. How could a website be successful if it didn’t even have a webmaster? But this website miraculously got started. Why? The reason is that this website was first initiated by government personnel, and all its early members were party and government agencies and enterprises. The staff of the unit, especially a few core moderators and activists, are all agency cadres. As we all know, in local areas, these are all high-end people, and they are the ones people strive to make friends with. Therefore, although this forum does not even have a webmaster, and they do not understand the Internet at all, it has always maintained an upward development trend.
For local stations, what about those high-level members who are key to development? 1. Civil servants. 2. Business owners. 3. Company leaders. 4. Local white-collar workers. 5. An older and more charismatic big brother.
2. Activity strategy
Local stations must not ignore the importance of activities, especially offline activities. Because the user groups of local stations are all local and have a fixed circle, and they always look up but never look down. Therefore, if local stations want to do well, they must go offline and organically integrate with offline. This is a characteristic of local stations. So how to organize activities?
First, start with small activities and become more active. Such as dinner parties, mountain climbing, karaoke, various sports activities, etc.
Second, form an core circle through offline activities. Through long-term activities, we have developed and gathered a group of core members. These members will become your seed users, and they will continuously attract more members.
Third, the level of the core characters should be high. Pay attention to attracting some higher-level members through activities, and develop them into core members or even core management team members.
Fourth, the continuity and diversity of activities. Activities must be continuous and diverse in content. For example, once a week, or once every half month.
Fifth, high-end people can be gathered through high-end activities. In the early stage, we repeatedly emphasized the need to attract high-level members. So how to absorb it? Organizing high-end activities is a shortcut.
