Yesterday, I read a post on my forum about imitating gongbi painting, and I became somewhat interested in Photoshop's linear deepening mode. Personally, I think the principle of linear deepening is to control the brightness of the upper layer to the next layer, creating a certain contrast. When the brightness of the upper image is less than or equal to 128, and the brightness of the lower image is also less than 128, Then the brightness of the resulting merged layer is returned to 0, which is black. If we extract the outline of the character and use the linear deepening mode, the outline of the character will be strengthened.
If you have this idea, why not give it a try?

Final effect:
First, open the original image (this image comes from the Internet) and copy two layers.
Click on the background copy 2, execute Filter---Sketch--Photocopy to extract the appropriate contour lines, and change the layer mode to Linear Burn. Tip: When executing the Photocopy filter, be sure to set the foreground color to black and the background color to black. Color is set to white.
Go back to the background copy and execute the filter - Gaussian Blur, as shown in the figure.
If the outline lines feel a bit dark, then slightly change the opacity of background copy 2.
Merge the layers and finally adjust the curves to increase the brightness.
I got the effect as shown in the picture, which feels pretty good.
A final analysis: This approach is only suitable for people, not for landscape photos, because the lines proposed in landscape photos are too complex. Using the linear deepening mode will only increase some contrast in the midtones and dark parts, resulting in some unnatural noise. When extracting the outline of a character, you should also pay attention and try to set the parameters of the dark parts to the minimum value. The parameter values of the details should also be determined according to the picture, and the adjustment of the photocopy layer and curves should also be determined according to the situation of the picture. There are many ways to extract contour lines. How to extract a soft and clear contour line remains to be thought and explored.
Therefore, this approach still has limitations. The purpose of writing this tutorial is to give everyone an inspiration. One method is not a panacea. Only by being familiar with the characteristics of PS tools and combining them with actual applications can we achieve better results. .
