Why are the portrait photos in photography magazines always so eye-catching and with the right shades, but my own works are ordinary and unremarkable? There is a simple method called "vignetting", which can be used to modify ordinary photos. It's full of flavor and full of "fashion blockbuster" atmosphere.
When taking photos, due to the limitations of the environment, you cannot guarantee that every element that enters the lens is what you want, such as an unexpected trash can, a passerby accidentally caught in the shot, or a messy background. If you take a photo If the resulting picture has too much content, it will not be able to express the theme well. Therefore, the essence of "vignetting" is that it can lead people's vision to the bright place, highlighting the subject or the center of interest, especially when modifying portrait works. "Vignetting" can also create the light and shadow atmosphere of a fashion blockbuster!
Comparison between original image and rendering
This is a photo taken of a model standing on the street. In order to highlight the model's expression and temperament, we will add dark corners to this photo, and we must be careful to avoid too big a difference in color between the arms and face. Open the image and use the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) and the Magnetic Lasso Tool (L) to circle the face and arms respectively.
When circling the selection, please note that the selection option of both tools is "Add to Selection", so that the face and arms can be selected at the same time.
1. Select - Feather (ALT+CTRL+D), set the feather pixels to 100 pixels, and confirm.
TIPS: The larger the feathering value, the softer the picture transition.
2. Click "Select-Inverse Selection" (CTRL+SHIFT+I) to invert the selection area.
3. Then click "Image-Adjustment-Curve (CTRL+M)", set the value to input 145, output 107, and confirm. The larger the "input" value is, the darker the picture will be. When adjusting the curve value, you should determine the degree of lightness and darkness according to the theme of the picture, instead of blindly pursuing excessive vignetting effects, which is counterproductive.
4. Click "Select-Deselect (CTRL+D)", adjust the contrast, and save the image.
